My Zoysia is looking bad! It is thin with spots that are black below the blades. Is this root rot, fungus, sod worms or thatch issues?

I’ll post a picture of someone explains how.

Black sounds like fungus, but will need pictures to be sure. I’d start by putting out a fungicide.

Thanks for blowing it up. It is still hard to tell from the picture but the thatch will turn black when decomposing. If it is happening in the thatch layer then that is what it is. If it is on the actual live grass itself then that is a different animal. It sounds like you need to have your lawn dethatched. Zoysia needs that every couple of years.

Mine does that too. It’s thatch and you can rake it pretty easily. I bought a sunjoe electric Dethatch. Works well if you are like me and too lazy to rake.

I say thatch but that may not be exactly what it is. But raking cleanse it up and it usually grows back in a couple weeks.
