Any one have any experience or input on electric (battery operated) lawnmowers? I’m in the market for a new lawnmower and I’m thinking about trying a battery powered one. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I have a greenworks 40v lithium mower and blower for the townhome for the last 4 years. Small yard 30'x50' and haven't had any weak battery issues. Not a single issue with either unit. I imagine the modern models are even better these days!

Can someone please move this to Home and Garden? Didn’t realize this board existed.

I have the Ego self-propelled and have been very happy with it. I also bought the power head with weedeater, edger, pole saw attachments along with a blower. I have 2 batteries now and have never run out while doing my lawn. When I run one down, I grab the other one and put the first once onto charge. It's usually fully charged by the time I finish the yard.

There's several threads on here about them. Look into the 56v EGO for $399 at Home Depot.

I bought the EGO mower as well; it's been great so far.

Also have the string trimmer, power head, edger and blower; have been really pleased with all of it.

I'm looking to grab this and the string trimmer. Has anyone seen any deals for memorial day weekend? I've seen reconditioned models that were cheaper, but would rather snag a sale if possible.

Saw the string trimmer on sale at Home Depot for $159 this past weekend. I paid $189 2 weeks ago.

I would recommend buying the power head though instead of the dedicated string trimmer and then buy the trimmer attachment and any others you might want (e.g. edger)

Also worth noting that once you have a couple of batteries, you can buy the "bare" tools online.

For example, I have batteries that came with my trimmer and mower; so for the power head and blower, I ordered them "bare" (without battery) and am using the batteries I already have.

Home Depot doesn't seem to stock the "bare" tools in stores though; had to order online.

I bought an Ego 21” self propelled mower and trimmer about a month ago. So far I’m happy but it takes some getting used to. I have a small yard with thick st Augustine grass. I like to cut it on the high side and it seems my mower just leaves a bunch of random single blades of grass uncut. I’ve done some reading online and it seems I have two options: lower my deck and/or sharpen the blade. My previous mower had some issues but it never seemed to leave random blades of grass standing. Of course I had centipede at my old house and it wasn’t as thick and it was cut lower.

My trimmer is pretty damn powerful. I bought the one with the power string loader and think it’s great. It’s taking some effort to get used to it. I had my last trimmer for almost 15 years. The ego trimmer is is very responsive and has enough power to get away from me pretty quick. The more I use it the better I can control it.

I also bought an ego backpack blower two weeks ago. it’s pretty impressive. It isn’t as powerful as my echo backpack blower but it still has some power behind it and I’m happy with it especially for the price since I bought just the bare tool and use the battery from my mower.

I think my favorite part of this is the convenience of the batteries and not dealing with gas. Also I can do 90 minutes of yard work and not smell like gas/exhaust when I’m done.

I own this. Awesome. Lowe's Kobalt 80V self propelled. Does front and back twice before needing a recharge. My lot size is approximately 14,000 sf.

I have the Kobalt 40v from Lowes. It's great for my small yard. However, it can struggle depending on how thick your grass is. I was away for two weeks and it took two charges to cut through the jungle that invaded. Overall I'd recommend it but you should probably spend the money and get the 80v. Hope this helps

I recently bought the Greenworks 40V 21" mower, weed eater, and blower off Amazon when the price was right. Two batteries between the three and I can do everything I need to (small/medium front and backyards) without recharging. Very pleased so far.

I just can't do it...I know they work well but I can't convince myself to buy a non gas-powered lawn mower.

I have less that 1000 sq feet. Got the cheapest Sun Joe on eBay. Less than $100. No more noise, getting gas, gas fumes in the garage etc. Only regret is the small blade width. Will go with a wider blade if it ever dies. Year 2 now.

Why? Here's a few reason for getting one:

No oil to change.
No oil to spill when you add oil.
No oil to spill or foul the engine if you turn it on its side to change the blade.
No gas to store.
No gas spillage on your clothes.
No gas spilling out ehen you turn it on its side to change the blade.
No muffler to replace.
No spark plug to replace.
No carburetor to get clogged over the winter.
No float sticking.
No pulling a starter cord in frustration.
No loud noise.
No hand numbing engine vibration.

So, what are your reasons to keep getting a gas powered mower?
