Just moved here from out of state and have 20-30 large trash bags. Is Tangipahoa Landfill in Independence 22 miles away really my best option?

Here we just throw it in the bed of the truck and drive 85 on the interstate, welcome to Louisiana!

so are they new still in the box or did you put something in them?

no one can answer your question until we know what type of trash is in the bags, is it yard clippings/grass, leaves and branches, is it dead animals, is it straight up house trash

people burn everything burnable, then the rest goes in the garbage can for the garbage truck to haul off.

i do know in Ponchatoula/Hammond there are at least 3 separate garbage providers you can sign up for and they all have their own rules on what will or wont be picked up

Straight up house trash. Nothing toxic. No paint or aerosols. No electronics, appliances or furniture.

just go to back corner of your lot and start a burn pile, burn everything that burns, that should get rid of 80% of it, then the rest you just add a bit to each of the trash day collections until its gone.

there arent really many trash dumps around so as someone else mentioned, most people litter and throw their trash on the side of the road somewhere

There’s a landfill in Walker. I drove up and dumped a truck bed full of stuff when I moved out of a house in denham. Don’t recall the price, maybe $30ish in 2015.

If you are 22 miles away that tells me you must be east of Ponchatoula. Yeah I think the Parish dump is your best option. Like others have said you need proof of residency. If you have trash service, call them and see what they can do.

Not sure of your location, but if your property is considered "rural" by the parish, using the dump is free. Call the dump and give your address and they can tell you.
