Doorbell camera installation

Just got the Nest Hello doorbell camera recently and have the time where I'm about to install it, but I have one issue/question.
The current doorbell is a doorbell/intercom combo unit that is about 4"X6", but the mounting plate I have is more like 3.5"X4.5", so the hole in my brick is larger than the mounting bracket plate.
Anyone have any ideas of a material I could use to cover the hole in the brick, and then mount the bracket on that material that doesn't look tacky or half assed? The mounting plate and bracket is black, so I was thinking of just a matte black piece of sheet metal or the like that would somewhat match the color of the mounting bracket I have, but figured I'd ask if anyone had run in to this issue and what you did.

I'd probably just get some thin metal plate and paint it black, then mount onto that.
eta: google pic. something like this but spray canned black or similar.

I just installed one a couple days ago. other than the Nest app biend down while I was trying to install it, it was not bad to do.
Maybe a picture would help out in people making a recommendation. Is it possible to mortar in the gap to match the mortar in the rest of the brick?
