I have a large, 4 acre gravel parking lot at work that I can’t keep the damn weeds from growing up. The lot is not being used this year, but I still want to maintain it before it gets out of hand. I’ve sprayed multiple chemicals, but I was curious as to what will happen if I lay down some salt? Should the salt be mixed with water and vinegar?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a side of my house that is unstoppable with weeds. No matter how much weed killer I spray it goes wild. Is there any product I can buy that will prevent anything from growing once I put it down. There is no grass just sand on the side of house.

Diquat is a serious herbicide. Expensive, but it's a killer.

Try Sahara DG granules. It sterilizes the soil.

A salt & 10% vinegar solution with a bit of liquid soap added will burn the grassy weeds but won't kill to the root.

Roundup

Weeds will continue to return, but reapply every so often. Easy peazy.

I have often thought about salting the spaces in my concrete driveway for the same reason. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m afraid it will runoff into my yard and do terrible things.

Never used this product but I read the label and this herbicide is designed for the OP’s issue, but it needs to be applied yearly. Based on on recommended application rate, looks like it could cost as much as $1K for a 4 acre lot for just the herbicide.

I have sections in my gardens that are just rocks and weeds grow up through all the rocks. Anything I can apply to the entire rock sections to prevent or kill weeds?

Would a granular type be better?

Vinegar and hot salt water. Whenever I boil pasta, I pour the leftover hot water in the rocks and the weeds will die in an hour...…..Same for crawfish boil water.

By chance you know what types of weeds you dealing with? I’d suggest a generic non-selective herbicide like glyphosate (“Roundup”, buy the generic brands - cheaper) to kill it off the existing weeds, and consider applying a granular pre-emergent herbicide, like “Dimension” and apply that in Sept/early Oct, and then again in late Feb/March. That will help to control annual broadleaf weeds, but not perennial weeds or sedges. Use a couple tablespoons of surfactant (spreader/sticker) in the herbicide solution.

As Zappas said, salt and vinegar solution are going to kill the foliage but not the roots. Glyphosate will kill the roots. But weed seeds that are present will continue to sprout - the pre-emergent will help tremulously with that, depending on what types of weeds you are dealing with. And course, keep up with doing this - it’s not a one time activity.

Heavy application of muratic acid and water. Being over rocks whatever you have may suffer from penetration issues.

They make soil neutralizers.
