Does anyone like slightly tall St. Augustine?
I know the rec is 2-3" but I prefer it in the ~4" range. I think it looks so much better especially a couple of days after cutting when it gets that deep green color. Over the years I have done it the only negative I have found is when you have a week or so of solid rain and can't get it cut it starts looking like a pasture quicker and takes a couple of weeks to get under control.

Yes, plus it helps with weeds.

And water/moisture retention.

Always cut as high as possible (no pun there).

I cut mine at 3”. If I was able to cut every 4-5 days, I’d cut it higher. I love tall St Aug. however my mower misses some blades at 3”. I find the lower I cut, the more even the cut looks

Yep. Plus when your neighbor (like mine) cuts at 1“ (exaggerating, but you get the idea) it makes your yard look like a superstar.

First, I don't feel so weird now.

Funny this is exactly what brought it up, maybe we have the same neighbor. His always looks like it is fighting back from the yellowish-green where mine always looks lush. He is anal about his yard and everything else looks great and while he thinks his grass looks great IMO it looks like shite except the 24hrs before he cuts it or when rain delays his cutting.

Yes. I had to fight with my yard guy forever on this. He wanted to scalp it, and I told him to raise the mower as high as it goes (except the first cut in spring, when scalping is recommended).

All you have to do is look around a neighborhood. The best looking St Aug yards will have a tall/thick turf.

My St. Aug likes to be cut at 4 inches. Anything less shocks it, no matter how gradually I take it down.

I cut it at 2. Too many weeds in the yard that make it look unkept and like a jungle. Grow about a foot tall in a week. Got 1.6 acres. Plus the way it has been raining it takes about a week for this thing to completely drain out.
