Anybody have a basic box smoke house? Looking at building one. Have an idea of a 5x4 and 6 feet tall but don’t really have any experience with this.

Are you wanting to "cold" smoke?

I built one a couple years ago out of left over 2x4's, some sheet goods and made a door using 3/4 x 6 cypress glued up for make a large panel.
I have it on rollers to move around so I can store it out of the weather under my 2nd floor back porch. It is about 6 ft. tall by 25 inches wide by 18 inches deep.
I have it set up to go both ways with cold smoke or hot smoke for cooking. For cold smoking I have a smaller box on the side with a hot plate in it that I put a stainless steel pan on the hot plate and use pellets for smoke. I run a 5 ft. length of 3 x 4 gutter downspout from the smaller box to the smoker and that allows the temperature to stay under 100 degrees for cold smoking.
For hot smoking I use a stainless container with charcoals and wood chunks and that gets the box to 250 degrees for hot smoking/cooking.
I have a draw hole for air on the lower side that can be dampened off and 2 draw holes on the top that have dampers to adjust for temperature control.
For shelving, I simply bought one of those wire storage racks from Home Depot and used the 3 racks on the inside spaced just over 1 ft. apart and starting about 2 ft. off the bottom of the unit. I can do at least a dozen chickens if I need to.
