I have a fairly large detached garage aprox. 36x24 with a floored second floor. It's unfinished and I'm undecided if I should insulate the walls or not before I have sheet rock installed. The roof has radiant barrier sheathing so it stays pretty cool. What say you?

Do you or anyone else plan on living in it? Do you plan on installing some form of A/C or heating? If yes to either of these, yes, insulate it.

In fact, you should do it despite either of those answers. Everything is always easier with open walls and you'll regret it if you decide to use it for living purposes and could have easily insulated it prior to rocking, floating, and finishing walls.

Yeah it'll be so much easier and cheaper to insulate it now as opposed to trying to do it down the road.

With one that size, I definitely would. Like the other poster stated, easier to do so now than later

Yes, really cheap to do it now in case you ever want to add HVAC or finish out the room.

Why even add drywall if you're not going to insulate? So if you insist on drywalling it, I'd definitely add insulation while you can.

I would insulate garage doors, walls, and ceiling between floors. Off subject a little since you are detatched, but I see so many high end custom houses with bonus rooms above garages where builder did not insulate garage walls and garage doors and the temp is +/-10 degrees from the rest of the dwelling.

Another yes vote. Even if you take a few years to decide how to utilize that space, you know it can be made to live in or use as a comfortable place to work, hang out, etc.

large detached garage

I insulated my shop that is attached to my detached garage. Best move ever. Its very comfortable and doesn't cost much money at all. Highly recommend it.
