any ideas? its just a quick 'thump' that happens once then again in 10 minutes. too quick to get a read on it.

here's what i've ruled out:

- its not the hvac going on or off (happens even if the AC hasn't kicked on for an hour)
- it happens every 10 minutes or so consistently
- i've put all the dogs & cat in the room with me so its not them sitting down and bumping the wall
- it seems to be coming from the CENTER of my house between the 1st floor and the basement which is built out.
- i can hear it stronger in the basement (it has a drop ceiling) but no matter where i stand i can't seem to get closer or further from it.
- its not related to any appliance that i can tell (fridges or freezer compressors kicking on or off)
- my house is 50% basement & 50% crawlspace

is it aliens or is the IT clown living in my crawl space?

its driving me absolutely insane that i can't find it. its like living with the annoyatron.

Sounds like maybe your pipes from variable water pressure. Is that area close to the main water supply line?

Do any of your toilets have a leaking flush valve?

Being every 10 minutes sounds like a water pressure type issue.
You could eliminate appliances, HVAC by turning off power to them and listening.

We are currently in an apartment while we build and we noticed the same thing. It's coming from our water heater. Don't know what it is or why it's happening, but it's definitely coming from the water heaters.

Sump pump?

houses built on hills or uneven ground where the basement or bottom floor are below the sewer line level need a pump to 'push' the water upward into the main line. mine is in a closet next to the toliet in the basement and comes on every 2-3 flushes or every 3 minutes if i'm getting a shower.

eta i'm defintely leaning towards this being a toliet leak or water heater related.

Is it the sump pump? Seems like something working on a pressure switch might be the culprit.
