New homeowner, Houston TX area. Bought house in early May. The lawn had been neglected for a year or so. Made an application of Weed & Feed but am now noticing Dallis Grass (too many to dig up).

Lawn forums mostly all recommend Celsius.

The Bayer brand is $135 on Amazon. Are there any other alternatives?

Thanks in advance, I know very little about lawn care.

If you have a Centipede or St. Aug lawn, strongly consider grabbing Celsius. It’s around $104 at SiteOne landscape supply. If you are the type that will probably pick up Herbicide each year at Home Depot, just tell yourself you’d probably spend that much in 2-3 years anyway. A bottle of Celsius will take care of you for a long time.

Spot spray with roundup. Keep up the fertilizer and irrigation.

Try Celsius first. Multiple hits a couple weeks apart. I used roundup and now my front yard looks like a Dalmatian although the dallis (mostly) is gone

Celsius never seemed to kill it for me. I spot sprayed mine with MSMA last year and I had very little come back this year.

My suggestion: borrow a small bobcat

Thanks for the help guys.

Roundup is a no for me. So are bobcats.

I've been seeing good reviews on MSMA.

MSMA Will work but it will leave a dead area for a couple of weeks. So spot spray this.

The best mix is Celsius +Revolver. It's expensive as shite but it works correctly

Tribute total is what you want. It’s Celsius/revolver/sedgehammer. If you have bermuda it will work and will only yellow it. If you have St Aug it’s going to kill both.

Honestly, I'd just hire a local weed treatment company to handle it. I tried to get rid of Dallis grass on my own with minimal luck. Hired a local company to tackle it, and they had it under control after 4 or 5 applications. The tech said it's best to attack it aggressively in the fall, for whatever that is worth.

The added benefit is they also treated the lawn for all broadleaf weeds, along with fertilizer, so my yard looks better than it has since we bought the house in 2002.

Don't let the price deter you. I believe it is a 10oz bottle and the max mix rate is .113oz per gallon. One bottle will treat almost 100,000sqft.

Is there anything that can treat dallis green in St. Aug without killing it? If not is it best to just wait till late fall to treat it?

since the dallisgrass growth tends to outpace the turfgrass, i like to mix small amount of roundup in a cup and use my hand to apply to the leaves (with a latex glove). i've pretty well knocked it out of my yard which was also neglected for a year or so. if you're fertilizing, the grass will fill in the patches in a month or so.

Thanks, I'll try that. I was trying to avoid 6" dead spots scattered about.

Nothing that works with any regularity. I'm trying a hot mix of celsius and sedgehammer applied every two weeks. It is knocking it back big time but it isn't dead yet.

I put a little roundup in a solo cup and use q-tips or a small brush to paint the weeds.
