Citronella free bug solution?
It's finally porch season, but the bugs on mine are insane already. My wife HATES the smell of citronella, so does anyone have an effective, non-citronella solution?

Eucalyptus trees/oil are a deterrent to mosquitos if you could plant one near the porch

I've looked it up, and it seems to have mixed reviews. Oddly it seems most good reviews come from Florida and most poor reviews come from Texas. Where have yall used one with success?

It works better with no wind. A breeze will throw it off.

South Louisiana and Mississippi. They're only like $20/ea, so try one or two out next time you're hanging out on the porch. Also, get some bifen or Talstar and spray your yard

They work very well here in SWLA. I have a patio that is tucked away with walls on 3 sides so that probably helps.

I installed a ceiling fan for this reason. No more bugs (on high speed)

Also box fans and oscillating fans work too.

Hmmm I'm kinda wondering how well it'll work for me. I live in Shreveport, so basically Texas and while my patio has 3 walls, most of the seating is not within the walls.

The only problem you can have is with wind. Spray your yard and use those, and you should be good (or much better)

re: Citronella free bug solution?
yes. it truly is awesome stuff. Spray about 6 feet up your house, and on shrubs, trees, nearby grass, etc. Just don't spray on plants producing food you're going to eat. Also completely safe for pets once it dries. I researched mosquito prevention when i bought my home last summer and could not believe the reviews I read about the stuff. Almost seemed too good to be true but it really works. Also will kill ants, roaches, spiders, gnats. It's like magic.

How often do you reapply?

re: Citronella free bug solution?
Google search "fan mosquito trap". Look at the box fan idea and place it near a light. Net goes in front of the fan and light on the back. It attracts the mosquitos to the light and the fan pushes them into the net and they dry out and die. Hopefully a terrible death. My buddy did this last year and said he would catch thousands in a night. He backs up to a stagnant pond but it was very effective at catching those bastards. I'm going to give that a try this year.

I just applied yesterday for the first time this year. I normally do it every 4-6 weeks through sep/oct. But the stuff is concentrated so if you have less than an acre a quart should last you a couple+ years. I just apply with a little gallon pump sprayer.

Demon WP. Spray it on your porch siding and/or flooring. Keep it away from gardens or any places where you want bees to frequent.
