Can I use a railroad tie for a fire place mantel

the tie I want to use has been in my driveway for 8 years it’s weathered and worn no signs or smells of creosote and not sticky at all.. anyone ever used one?

That was my first thought mabe for an outside Mateo but not inside I guess.

Not no, but hell no----unless you love the smell of creosote, especially when it warms up with a fire in the hearth.

Lots of good options for what you want to do. Railroad tie is not one of them.

they are treated with stinky arse shite that will funk up your house when it gets warmed up

the best way is go buy an untreated rough saw beam to use
