Can I fix this absolute catastrophe by sloping some masonry sand and St. Aug Sod?

Background: I dug about a 50 ft ditch, but I had trouble finishing due to all the rocks near the end.

I put down 40 ft of ez flow perforated pipe and covered it, then I added the rain garden. There is a drain feeding the pipe but it’s full because there’s no daylight at the end of the ez flow.

I mistakenly thought the rain garden would be a better sponge.

Now that I’ve made these mistakes, can I slope the land and sod it for better drainage?

It looks like if you added any fill, it’d be above the bottom of your house. You need to get that water draining somewhere.

Do you have an overhead/aerial/sat image and can give a rough idea of elevations?

Just have to figure out where to move the water to. If you dug the ditch already, what keeps you from finishing it?

It definitely would. That’s what started the whole venture.

I’m not sure I could find anything that would zoom in far enough.

It’s high land generally speaking. About 50 feet.

This is what I had. It would fill up but I could get it out to the street. I stopped and built the rain garden at the lowest spot thinking it would soak up a lot of water.

I am getting gutters and down spouts next.

I think you need some equipment to move those rocks

you don’t need me to tell you but that is a mess.
installing some catch basins and drains may be your only option.

it’ll tear up the place putting it in but you got a good head start

is this a recent problem?

I’ve got one small drain not pictured.

Bought the house end of last year.

that’s a lot of water.
unless you can figure out a way to make it surface drain (and do it correctly) you’d be better off putting in some large catch basins and a 6-8” discharge

No daylight at end of ez pipe? You mean its not draining?

A rain garden is a good idea in low spots you want to temporarily fill on the way to draining but you still need somewhere for it to go at any type of steady rate.

Before putting any type of fill or sod like others said yes I would fix the “no daylight at the end of the tunnel” issue first or at least slope away from the house best you can.

Can you slope the yards away from the house and rock driveway? Where does your backyard behind the photographer drain?

Everything eventually goes to the street. It’s probably 18” lower than the lawn.

I think I’m going to have to end up uncovering the end of the drain and renting a machine to dig another 15 ft of trench.

I’m very much sick of shoveling through roots at this point.

Can you go along side the driveway to the street? Like a ditch on the side of a street?

Can you go under the fence, away from the rocks? Instead of curving with the driveway go straight toward the fence then turn if necessary to the ditch. Rent you a mini-excavator and knock it out.

. If you want to do it right and do it once I agree with this.

Rent a mini, put a catch basin or two in and run a 6-8inch drain line all the way to the road.

Make sure to put chicken wire on the catch basin, otherwise with all those trees you'll end up snaking the line every year.

Don't half arse it. First big hurricane/ end of the world storm you get will flood you

Where is the water going to go once it hits the street? Is there a storm drain near by? I’m no pro but I believe you are somewhat responsible for the water, you can’t just flood your neighbors yard.

But yes, you need to catch the water and then remove it hopefully the city or neighborhood has a place for it to go.

Eta: you can rent a very small excavator for like $250 and have a fun time wrecking your yard. Have a long term plan and consider using it for other things also if need be.
