Calling the tree gods

Have two cypress trees near my driveway, the roots are raising the slab. If I cut down trees and grind stumps will the roots stop growing or is it like a persimmon tree keep growing and sprout from roots? Just want to know how far to chase it.

you should experience little to know re sprouting. just get as much of the root system out as possible

How old are the trees? When was the driveway slab poured?

These are bigger trees 10in plus diameter , drive way poured long ago with house oringnal construction , just started noticing slab starting to buckle

Cut down tree, grind stump, grind any exposed knees. I mean pulverize it! Dig out the holes and fill with fill sand. Leave nothing in the holes, but sand. That should kill it.
What to do about the buckling and knees under the slab? That’s beyond me. Those knees may rot and the slab may go back down.

Agree that it may be cheaper and easier to re do a section of the driveway slab and try to preserve the trees. Taking out big trees can be stupidly expensive, esp if access is limited and structures are close by.
I had a section of driveway pushed up by a live oak. I rented a concrete saw and jackhammer, cut a nice curve around the encroaching roots, then planted a ground cover. Less than $500 and the tree remains.
