Don't know of any places in B.R. but from your post you are saying cypress cabinet doors. Something that small would be easy to do with a liquid stripped bought at Home Depot and pick up a couple stiff nylon scrub brushes and some plastic scrapers to remove it.

Simply follow the directions on the can of stripper and it really isn't all that hard.

You will have to neutralize the stripper when the job is done by wiping the wood down several times with rags dampened with water to remove any residual stripper. Then let it dry thoroughly before sanding to even the grain out.

Commercial strippers will dip the doors in vats of chemicals and likely use high pressure nozzles to remove the finish and when you get them back they are rough as shite and need a lot of sanding to get back to finish grade.

We have done this process for the bottom portion of our cabinets (doors and frame below counter) and total all in took us about 3-4 weekends to, apply stripper, let sit, scrape paint off (this was by far the hardest and most time consuming part), sand down, apply clear coat, and re-stain.

I've stripped, and finished several sets of cabinets over the years of owning and renovating houses and the first thing I do is take all the doors off, mark them so they go back on the correct cabinet, remove all the hardware and get to stripping them.

Frames are easy, but messy since the stripper tends to run and drip a bit, but putting down plastic drops really help with containing the mess.

As you are finding out, there are no real shortcuts, just a lot of messy, tedious work to get the job done, and done right.

You're halfway there by the sound of it. At least it's cool and not summertime with lots of heat and humidity to deal with.

I agree with everything you said and I appreciate the encouragement. I think since we have the process down, we might just go ahead and knock it out. I might just take the cabinets off so we'll be motivated to start the process.

There you go. Stick with it and you'll appreciate the end results much more since you did it yourself.

I've done a lot of renovating over the years and it is very satisfying when it is finally done, though it can be frustrating while in the process with all the mess-----especially if living in the house while things are being done.

It's incredible how dust finds its way into everything.

Use a heat gun. works far better than any paint stripper.

Nope. Unless you are real good with a heat gun, you could wind up scorching your wood and that makes going with a stain/poly finish even harder. It is real easy to scorch cypress with a heat gun.
