I am hoping to add a simple painted brick fireplace to my covered patio with gas logs similar to this picture. My first quote was $17k. Can anyone offer input as to what a solid budget number should be for this.

Real wood is the only way to go for an outdoor fireplace. Why would you want fake logs outdoors?

Laziness. Please we have a fire pit out on the patio surrounded by chairs when I want to sip bourbon and smell like a campfire.

A buddy of mine just did this. He framed it up himself and installed the fireplace insert himself. He's not a carpenter by any stretch of the word. He paid the brick layer to do the brick for 2-3K or something like that. Maybe all in 5K. I do not know the final price he's all in, just my best guess.
