Where’s the best place to get white outdoor bulb Christmas lights to line driveway/sidewalk?

I’ve seen those guys that get big spools of lights and custom fit the to your house. I was thinking about doing it myself but not sure where to get them.

They look nice, decent stakes, had to replace a few bulbs

The term to search is “stringer.”
So, “c9 stringer” will get you to where you want to go. You’ll usually get the options of green or white wire. More rarely, you can find brown wire.
You’ll typically need to separately buy “vampire plugs” to terminate the line. There are several websites that you’ll come across when searching that have both- 1000lights, christmaslightsetc, holiday lighting outlet
Then as you look, you’ll want to choose your spacing. They come as close as 6” and as far as 18” or maybe 24” pretty regularly. You could buy bulk wire and put the sockets on yourself. But that’s fairly tedious by comparison.
Most will have some sort of clip integrated into the socket. If you want it, make sure it’s there. If you don’t, you may find one without it a little cheaper. There are also some with magnetic bases, but they’re a bit more expensive. With LED lights, you can run much longer lengths than you could with halogen. It’s fairly commonplace to buy 12” spaced stringer and run two sets, slightly offset, so you get the appearance of 6” spacing if you need particularly long runs or insist on halogen bulbs.

None of these will come with bulbs, of course. You’ll need to separately find the color/brightness ones, “strawberry” vs “smooth,” visible LED filament vs “normal”

I have done a lot of reading. I have not actually done this yet. I may do it this year. I may wait until next. But I’m going to go custom length and mount on PVC or in C/U channel in the nearish future.

Is >$1/ft the going rate? Was hoping for some insider clearance site or visible from space or something like that.

I’m starting from scratch, but fairly confident I can put something decent together before my wife orders multicolor.

I guess what I’m really asking is if this is an Amazon trusted item and if there are any princes amongst the sea of toads.

We did ours around landscaping
I think I ended up buying 6 total

I would measure what you are wanting to line first, if you’re doing a driveway these might not be best option
Also, as other poster said check spacing, don’t want them close together but not too spaced out either

If you can wait there will probably be Black Friday deals

DIY route would be:
$150 for 500 stakes

$380 for 12” space, 1000ft stringer on a spool

$14/25 bulbs (LED)

So let’s say you were going to use exactly 1000ft so as not to waste anything, let’s just ignore the vampire plug cost, and you’re looking at $1.24/ft (at 12” spacing, so slightly more dense than this 20 light per 25 foot package here). (ETA- if they’re evenly spaced without leader, I think that’s 15” spacing, but I’m too lazy to go see the difference in cost there. It’s not a ton)

Incandescent would run about a quarter a bulb, but then you’ll potentially need more extension cords and plugs depending on the length you’re talking about doing.

For what it’s worth, buying stringer is pretty consistently priced across most online retailers. It looks incredibly similar. It’s probably all made in one factory overseas and shipped here (I saw one retailer say there are no Christmas lights made in America). Bulb prices haven’t changed much in the 3 years I’ve been tracking it either.

You may be able to find an LED set that uses mini LED (small base, no screw/replacement bulbs, but you can replace the LEDs yourself for very cheap and very easy if you own a pair of needle nose pliers) for cheaper, but screw-base c7/9 stuff is not cheap.

It’s an expensive holiday.

Thanks for all the knowledge. I don’t think I’ll do it this year but maybe next. I’ve seen a few videos of guys doing it as a business and they make it look easy.

Home depot always has a nice supply. They'll probably have them out late this month.

Check out the Website: Christmas Lights, Etc.
My favorite holiday is Christmas and I always load up in July when they have their summer sales event. That being said, they discount stuff 25% on a regular basis and free shipping becomes an option after a certain price point.

My local Ace Hardware cuts them to length for you if you bring in a list of the runs you need.

Noice. I’m trying to avoid messing with lights on the house, but I think something like your setup is where I’m heading.
