Best home security systems
Looking to install something like ADT or Nest cameras. I believe my cable company even may offers security services.

Any recommendations?

Ring is solid.

Spent about $500 on mine for the doorbell and outdoor camera. Outdoor camera is great, doorbell could be better but I think its at issue because my front door is elevated.

Came with a ton of door/window sensors and all the features are super handy.

GF has simplisafe and likes the Ring setup a lot better FWIW.

If you just want to monitor your house, Ring type cameras are good.

If you want cameras that will provide enough detail to help identify someone in a crime (esp. @ night) you'll need more firepower.

Which is it you want them for?

What is your budget?

For $1400 I got four cameras and a NVR. Purchased from LOREX. Good quality equipment, and they have excellent customer service. Cameras have color night vision, audio recording, 4K resolution, PoE (but you can get wireless if you prefer).

As a long time user of Lorex, the worst part about them is the customer service.

They def. have the best equipment for the money, but if you run into any problems, they are a fricking nightmare to deal with.

My advice is to save every piece of correspondence with them. Record phone calls, print emails, etc., esp. when it comes to warranty information.

They will give you the run around and lie about promised services if it means denying a claim.

Also theyre NVRs are loud as frick, so put it in a well ventilated place that isn't used often.

All that said, I'm running a 4k system they offer currently, but will piecemeal the next and use Blue Iris software.

You will mucho dinero if you get it professionally installed
DIY is a big savings

I got Frontpoint. Paid about $600-700 for a doorbell camera, main unit, about 30 door/window sensors, 3 smoke detectors, and 4 glass break detectors.

If you look at the prices online, they are higher. I called a sales rep and he knocked off about 30% or so off the "retail" price.

It is a bit pricier than others for the monthly monitoring fee, but it's still less than what ADT wanted.
Oh, and ADT wanted to charge us like $5000 to install all the above mentioned items.

Yeah. Get a dog for security. Cameras, etc do nothing to protect your home.

Funny that those cameras catch countless scenarios where dogs either run from the criminals or want to be their friend. Not a whole lot of the dog scaring them off.

No single piece of security equipment is fool proof. Each is a layer of protection.

Deterrence and alert, which cameras, alarm systems, etc. provide, help the only true protection: an aware, armed home owner.

It would be worth much more with GF pics.

re: Best home security systems
While that may true, obviously in this day and age cameras aren’t a deterrent. I concur that a GOOD aggressive dog along with a firearm is the best security system. Works well for me
