I have 2 6ft aluminum frame gates that I attached a wood frame and fence boards to for a 12 ft total opening. I'd speculate one 6ft section would weigh around 150-200 lbs and maybe slightly more when wet. I was going to buy 2 auto gate openers but I don't know if I should go with Mighty Mule or Ghost Controls. I also don't know if I should go with a heavier duty opener as well or if the light duty version from Mule would work.

Does anyone have either of these and what is your experience with them? If you have them on a privacy fence, do you have issues with wind blowing them and causing issues or breaking them? I don't want to go overkill but i also don't want something that will struggle to open these gates.

I’ve got a mighty mule and a liftmaster. Liftmaster is substantially better and has less issues for me. The wind on a farm type gate constantly causes issue on the mighty mule. I suspect a wooden solid gate would be even worse. I would get the heaviest duty opener possible. I’ve had good luck with Liftmaster.

Plan on putting a liftmaster on my property gate in the near future. They appear to be the best bang for the buck.

I replaced my Apollo opener with a Ghost Controls, about a year ago. Very happy with it. Extremely easy to set up, and the customer service is excellent.

My mighty Mule would get out of sink with the wind and not close all the way. I bought a single gate and single opener.

Unfortunately, i don't have that option so based on the responses here, i may go with Ghost Controls. Liftmaster is out of my budget and Mighty Mule doesn't appear to be useful for most.

You will never regret getting a more powerful operator than you really need.

I installed a mighty mule 660 on my single 12' iron gate today. It replaced a GTO 2000. The MM is slower and not quite as powerful but does its job just fine.
