Artificial grass over wood deck. Anyone done this?

I have an obscene amount of PITA decking and boardwalks at my house. Probably over 1500sf when you take into account all of the various deck levels.
This isn't a brag; its because my house is built into the side of a hill and without the decking I would have almost no level ground.
So I'm in the process of replacing rotten boards ($$$ right now) and was planning to strip the paint and stain it but that sounds like a horrible job that will make me want to slowly kill myself so I'm looking for ways to minimize how much of the deck I'm going to have to fix.
The deck tier i'm looking to do this on is roughly 400sf or so and I thought it might be nice to put down a nice artifical turf in that area.
Anyone do this for a living or had it done? Looks like I can probably DIY; you need a porus pad of some sort then the grass on top and i think you glue & staple down the edges.
Before I go too far down the rabbit hole...pros or cons? How hot is the grass vs the wood? Any turf materials I should absolutely avoid?
Here's the deck tier in question. The trashy pergola is 12x10 so that gives you a bit of an idea of the size of this area. The gazebo has been sold and we're planning to put in a small wooden fort with slide & climbing wall for the kids on the side closest to the built-in gazebo.

Someone with way more expertise should chime in but this sounds like a major moisture retainer. Seems like it would exacerbate your problem.

That was my first thoughts as well.

shite pile of staples that will pull out and stick into your feet

That would look pretty fricking ghetto. Maybe wait til lumber chills out or go composite and replace a little bit at a time.

This will rot your wood faster. Do it right, replace crappy boards and refinish.

The wood deck has to come out. To do it properly you need a solid layer compacted limestone with drainage. I have artificial in my entire back yard around my pool and love it.
Also, i would not DIY the seems.

Listen to this man.
We have the fake grass in several areas and also love it. Doesn't get hot at all.
I've watched them install this stuff--they bring a SHITLOAD of sand and rock to build the drainage layers beneath.
Then aligning the seams and getting the edges just right was done by these guys that were damn near artists.

The deck is there because this is on a significant slope.
I remove the deck and there's no level surface for the turf.

Could you build a retaining wall and bring in dirt? Then you could go the artificial grass route or just sod that area.

I'm not putting down cheap green carpet from home depot. I'm talking the really high end artificial turf with proper padding under it.
Eta I'll look up some photos of what I'm talking about. If it doesn't look better than what's there now I won't do it.

Who did you use? I am in Mandeville and am looking to turf around my pool/backyard.

Similar. For me it’s this strip running between the back of the house and the pool that is presently comprised of a useless and ugly rock garden. One option is a wooden deck, but also looking at other options.

I have artificial turf around my pool. Very happy with the product.
It does get very hot in the summer, similar to composite decking.
Get it professionally installed if possible. I’m not sure of the pros and cons of installing it on existing decking. May have a wood rotting issue over time.
