Are there any drawbacks to tiling the ceiling in a walk-in shower?

Other than cost, of course.

The chance that if the workmanship is not up to standards the tile might come loose and fall in your head while you are in the shower knocking you out?
Other than that I think it would be ok. May have more condensation and subsequent dripping since the tile would likely be cooler than painted ceiling.

Besides gravity I can't think of any. I'm wondering if rather than laying them in thinset like usual if tile guys ever just liquid nail them to the ceiling then grout. What would be the downside really?

Finding the right person to do it is key I would think. I would be very selective.

It depends on your situation. I posted some pictures of our recent bathroom remodel earlier today and we originally planned on tiling the ceiling because of mold on the ceiling. The contractor showed me some pictures that he had done of ceilings that were tiled but for us we didn’t go that route because it wouldn’t look right. If you look at our pictures closely, you’ll see that our light/heater/vent isn’t in the center of our bathroom. That’s because we decided not to tile the ceiling.

The shower is 4’ x 6’ and enclosed fully on 3 sides and half of one side. The only parts that don’t have walls is 3ft wide where the opening for a glass door is.
It’s only 8’ ceilings and even though it has purple sheetrock on the ceiling I’m worried about moisture. There’s a 6” recessed light in there too.

I did a shower with the ceiling and top 12in of the walls in the below. Matched the 10x14’s on the wall.
No condensation issues.

Our shower is tiled, it was tiled in the 50's and it still is holding up strong. It is tiny 1X1 tiles that look to have been individually placed, not like the modern sheets of mosaic tile today. Water does gather on the tiles and it will drip after a shower, no idea what goes on above the tiles thoug.
