What’s the best thing to get rid of Aphids on sweet vybernums? I did the triple action stuff from fertilome so far.

I just fought them on my roses

Tried dish soap & water
Tried Bayer spray for roses

Neem oil seems to have done the trick

Permethrin 10 from Tractor Supply. Mix 1 TBSP per gallon of water. I spray all my vegetable plants once a week, or again after a heavy rain.

You have to be on a set every 7 day spray schedule, for a few weeks, to break the egg cycle. What you use, is less important. I have seen dish soap and water be effective.

I mixed dish soap and water in a spray bottle.

I hit the underside of the leaves on my rose bushes hard.

I haven’t seen any aphids in 6 weeks.

How bad is the scale?

If it isn't too bad, I you could try the neem oil but once they are adults with the hardened shell, it probably won't help.

I ended up having to use talstar on them and then cut off the most severely infect part of the plant.

Also, look to see if you have any of the small ants on the bush too. They will actually protect the scale and cause them to flourish. The ants farm the honeydew that scale produces. Use sevin powder for the ants and the base of the plant.

If you want to be organic, order some lady bugs. I kid you not. 1 lady bug will eat 20-50 aphids a day. You can buy a box of like 5000 for a couple of bucks, let them go in your yard and problem solved. Once the aphids are gone, the lady bugs will move on. Plus if you have kids, it's great to have a yard full of these wonderful creatures.

Those are also effective for Murder Hornets.

Where does one get ladybugs? They seem to work on Crape Myrtle Bark Scale. Only... you can't find them on the internet. Apparently, the Covid got them to? You can get Green Lacewings. Wonder if they'd be as effective? You can get 25,000 of them for $60.00. If nothing else, that'd be cool to see.

Imidacloprid or dinotefuron. Takes a while for the plant to take up, but it will take care of your problem.

I too normally order live lady bugs but couldn’t get any this year. Aphids love crepe myrtles so if you have big crepe myrtles it can be a challenge to get rid of aphids. Aphids also love day lillies. I pulled up all my day lillies in one of my flower beds and it made a huge difference.

Seems like most sites are saying Lacewings are a good alternative. I don't know if I want to order 1,000s of lacewings if they won't eat all the aphids and scales.

Never heard of the lady bug trick but I think that sounds fun and interesting. Plus my two year old would like it. Thanks for the info

I had an infestation on my peas. Hit them with 1 part Dawn detergent and 1 part Neem oil in a spray bottle.

zapped them in one day. No issues since. Well, except for aphid carcasses all over my peas.
