I have a couple of ant piles that popped up in my vegetable garden. I'm looking for something safe to get rid of them. TIA

Orthene. You can get it at wal mart for 10 bucks. Punch a few holes in the paper top (under the yellow cap) and sprinkle.

I wouldn't use Orthene. Acephate is absorbed by plants.

If it’s away from the plants somewhat, I boil a pot of water and dump it on the mound. Next day go out and you’ll see thousands of tiny carcasses.

Malathion. It kills everything and is safe. Diazinon and Sevin are also good.

Make them move, then kill them out side the garden area.

How does one make ants move? Onions!

Know how ya cut the ends off an onion before chopping/slicing for use/cooking? Place those ends on the ant pile. Ants hate onions and will move the entire colony.

Watch for where they move to and poison them there.

I've heard instant grits work. Does anyone know if that's true?

I don't have fire ants but works great just the same.
