First, I would like to thank the posters on this board for providing so much useful advice on lawn care. The year over year improvement that I've had based on things that I picked up here has been awesome.

I treated my yard with MSM early in summer, I really havent had much of an issue with buttonweed this year. I will notice isolated clusters pop up occasionally and have been spot treating those about every 4-6 weeks. Last time I did it was probably at the beginning of august, I do notice there are several spots in my yard where some small clusters have reemerged. They are by no means taking over, but I wanted to know if it was would be worth the effort to treat these again now or if they will die off soon with the cooler weather coming? If it should be treated, I guess I am still good to use MSM as I have been?

Somewhat unrealted side note: I applied the dimension preemergent granules a few weeks back prior to that cool front that passed through. There was rain in the forecast so I didnt water in myself, but the forecast didnt deliver much at all. We have gotten some rain since, but it may have been several days after the application. Would it be risky to reapply?

Treat the buttonweed now. If you don’t it will get bigger and drop more seeds.

Don’t reapply the pre em. It doesn’t take much to water it in.

Continue spraying the VBW as you see it - technically it will not die off with cold weather - it is a perennial weed and really only goes dormant. I’d continue to spray patches that emerge until it does go dormant, note those areas, and look for it in those same areas next spring, late April/May, for it’s re-emergence and resume your spraying program. Spraying herbicides to kill weeds should/can be a year round activity. You can switch to Fertilome Weed Free Zone herbicide if you see the MSM Turf becoming less effective in cooler/colder weather.

You are good with the Dimension pre-emergent herbicide application - no need to reapply.

24D won’t work. MSM is about 70% and Trimec Southern about the same. On my St Augustine when it’s below 90 degrees I put 1 oz MSM per acre plus 1 pint Trimec southern per acre. If that’s not 100% it’s close. If the temps are in the 90s I back the Trimec down to 1/2 pint, I don’t use surfactant but I use a fine spray with flat fan nozzles. Make sure you use Trimec Southern and no other version of Trimec.

I used a 3X dose of Celsius to spot spray, and it really made a difference....this is my plan forever.
