Looking to buy a new fridge/freezer combo to have for a 2nd / bulk storage. We want to spend about $1000. It will be in a utility room so no concerns about appearance. We just want the best reliability and capacity. Any recommendations?

No need to spend $1000 on a fridge placed in the utility for extra storage. Our most dependable fridge sits in my no A/C shop and is over 30 years old. Free.
The fridge/freezer combo in the basement is no frills around 15yo. $150

We got our upright deep freezer for the garage at an appliance outlet store. Oh no, a scratch. Cheap, thanks.

Get the largest whirlpool you can get.

I'm definitely game to spend less. I just want big and reliable. Regular ol freezer on top fridge on bottom rig.

Go to lowes/HD and ask if they have any damaged ones. Got brand new one with a dented side for $200 a few years back for my outside fridge

There use to be a scratch and dent reseller here in Memphis
They'd buy truckloads of stuff that had been in wrecks, dropped whatever.
They sometimes had some really good stuff just had to test it before you left with it.
Might see if anything like that is around

They normally have scratch and dent models at the big box stores. Or just hit facebook marketplace. Someone is always moving and can't take that kinda stuff.

I'll call around tomorrow and see. Any particular brands to look for? I've been told that if they make TV's don't buy their appliances?

i bought a 2 year old maytag off of market place. The owner said nothing was wrong but i assumed she knew it had a cooling issue or something because of the price. It was struggling to cool because you kept a filthy house. The coils were covered in dirt/animal hair. 5 minutes with my shopvac and it it working like new. Best $150 i have spent in awhile and my garage fridge has a working ice and water dispenser.
