Hey chicken and the admins,

Have y'all thought of doing something similar to what sbnation does in their comments? After a certain number of up votes, a post goes green as shown:

I think it'd be pretty cool to incorporate something like this for both down votes and up votes.

I'll hang up and listen.

It takes a programmer.

I think TD is not COTS.

Doesn't seem to difficult. After 10 upvotes, turn green.

It's rare for someone to get 10+ up votes

IMO, because nothing happens. Or lower it. When I was participating in Bloody Elbow (SBNation MMA site), I think it was 3 upvotes to get greened.

Which is good, so that every post in a thread wouldn't be green.

Edsbs's used to be 5 up votes. Not sure if they raised that as the site got more popular.

I just think it would be helpful to identify which posts in a thread or really good/helpful.

It'd be easier if there were id's/classes on cells, but here is something that kind of works, if you want to do it yourself. Doesn't highlight the OP properly because it's nested differently than responses(It highlights the OP title bar instead of body):
quote:

$('.mbThUp').each(function() {
if($(this).html() > 0) {
$(this).parents().eq(3).prev().children().eq(1).css( "background", "lightgreen" );
}
});
Copy and paste that into your browser console and it should highlight anything with at least 1 upvote.

I'd rather see penalties for downvoting, but I'm not sure of a fool prof way that'd work. Just something to improve the quality of the boards.

ETA, penalties for being down voted, that is.

Yeah that'd be nice, but tough to control.

You'd probably have to limit the amount of up votes/down votes each poster can use per day to prevent abuse. And then maybe that poster's name gets sent to the admins for post quality review?

I wouldn't. Mob mentality takes over with downvotes.

Right, but if you aren't a douche or an A hole, then you should be ok.

SHOULD BE.

But like I said, I don't know if there's a fool proof way to have it actually work.

Don't admins have the ability to see who downvoted a poster? If they do, and they can see it's the same people downvoting all the time, that can be taken into consideration for the proposed "down votes leading to a post quality review"

That I don't know. However, if someone is consistently down voting terrible posts and not just a certain posters, I see no problem. That's assuming they can see who does what.

But that doesn't work here, as most of those people are the ones doing the downvoting (see the thread)
