Quick update: I know it’s mostly water loss but I am down from 200 to 188 in 2 weeks! My morning glucose is sitting at 90 every day and my after meal glucose is around 100 which should make my doctor happy. To curb the cravings I have been drinking a hot “apple cider” by mixing 8oz water, 1tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and once squirt of concentrated stevia. I also just started drinking the ketorade recipe to help with my potassium and sodium levels.

I’m type 2 and overweight, 5’6 193 pounds after the holidays and quite frankly am getting really tired of being tired all of the time. What put me over the edge was seeing a full body picture of myself this weekend.

So I started Keto and IF regimen yesterday. Goal is to get to about 185 by Christmas. I’ve done it before and lost around twenty pounds on this diet but I went too hard and too fast last time so I couldn’t maintain. This time I’ll start slowly and work my way down to the size I want.

Wish me luck!!

That’s definitely a realistic goal.
Im 6 ft and was 227 in April according to the Dr. My BP was elevated but not bad. My sugar has always been around 80 but I come from a family of diabetics.
Well I got tired of worrying about that and started doing something about it in July. I’m now 183 and my BP is 110/65 average. I did a lower carb thing and just watched portion size. I also don’t sit near as much as I used to.

very much a realistic goal. Wouldnt be surprised if you drop that in the first week or two just due to water weight. You will feel better without the water too.

Guess what? you just made the first step... which is always the hardest. Now oncr you get in the zone you will be a weight lose machine. Its mostly mental, stick in there. Think of it as a journey, and remember... you may not be seeing results, but others do!

Most people fail the Keto diet due to insufficient electrolytes. You will feel hungry, have headaches, etc. this is all known as the Keto flu. Knock back as much of this as possible...

Water - 2L
Potassium Chloride Powder (no salt, nu salt found at grocery store) - 1 tsp
Sodium Chloride (Pink Himalayan Sea Salt) - 1/2 tsp
Sodium Bicarbonate (food grade baking soda) - 1 tsp
Magnesium sulfate (food grade epsom salt) - 1/2 tsp

Agreed.

IDK about as much as possible, but a couple of 8oz glasses/day and then regular water otherwise should be plenty.

OP, good luck on your journey. One key thing will be not to blow it out on Christmas. Enjoy being with family, relax a bit, it's only one day... but then get right back on that horse and follow through.

I pretty much sit on my butt all day due to my job. Would light cardio help this diet? I was thinking of starting walking a mile or two a day.

Yes you need to do fasted walking in the AM before you ingest any food. Only water prior to the completion. Additionally work your way to the goal of 360 min of fasted walking in a week for 4 weeks straight...

The more I hear about this keto, the more I appreciate the old gym/chicken and rice method

Yes has magnesium in it. If you need to dial up some more epsom salt it’s a laxative.

Cool! The same method that has failed millions of Americans and produces marginal results at best. Yeah I appreciate it too for funneling all the dejected people my way and we straighten them out.

At what point in ketosis does the superiority complex become a side effect.

For OP, good for you. Making lifestyle changes that promote health is always a good decision. If keto works for you, do it. Most of all, working for health is good. I don't fall into the keto camp myself, but there's a degree of personal preference that matters.

Most of all, keep working hard at it. Speaking from experience, good health gives you a lot of benefit.

Good luck

Started this two weeks ago and I’m down about 14 pounds right now. I’ve cheated a few times unfortunately so I’m not where I could be but I’ve got a long road trying to drop 45 so I try not to beat myself up if I frick up once, instead of focus on correcting.

Amazing how easy it is after you get passed the mental block that comes in the first few days.

Just eat a leafy green salad if you want to stay in ketosis and never have a worry about constipation. plus it gives potassium which will help the liver process fat out of the body.

actually a new huge meta analysis that came out last week says that the compliance rate between an iso-caloric diet versus keto is statistically insignfacant. Both are in the 23% range.

if it works for you...awesome, use it(i personally do). But if it doesn't do something less restrictive.

BTW there was a new meta-analysis that did come out last week that did show that in individuals that were not on a medically induced diet that there was an inadverant reduction of energy consumption. Essentially when on an unsupervised keto diet, dieters that stick to the keto diet inadvertenly over time reduce calorie consumption over time.

I am pretty sure a meta analysis of Intermittent Fasting, will show the same thing. Its why KETO and Intermittent Fasting together are a lethal combo IF and that is a big IF you can stick to it. its all about compliance.

No no no. The human body was not designed to digest fiber. You do not need fiber on the Keto diet. Fiber is trash!
