Let us know what your training for so we can help with your training and motivation!

Bring this back up in like September and maybe. It's just too damned hot right now. I actually started lifting weights this weekend because I realized I hadn't been doing anything lately due to it just being too hot to run or go ride my bike.

You can do a lot of marathon training in a gym, especially the early work.

Lots of leg and core work to build a solid foundation before you start pounding the pavement.

Full incline sprint repeats on the treadmill is also a great workout.

I'm going to keep doing Crossfit as part of my training. So less running and more weights and other types of cardio than in the past. My buddy shaved 20 minutes off his PR by doing this.

I doubt I'll be about to do that (my PR is 3:36), but maybe I could get sub 3:30. Maybe.

Meh. The last marathon I trained for I had IT band issues for a bit, but I was able to work through it and have never had any issues since.

Meh, the "injuries" I get from running aren't really injuries. Usually stuff I can work through, just need to pay attention to (tendonitis or something like that). I've never had an injury that flat out was enough to stop me from training.

And they were mostly from me going out and running 5 miles after sitting on the couch for a month. I tend to screw up like that when it cools down after summer and suddenly it feels easy to do that but my tendons aren't ready. That would be like me going into the gym and trying to lift what I did months ago while not working out. I'm bound to tweak something if I'm not careful.

I'm in. The LA will be iffy w a baby due Nov 1. But I'll keep up w training and at least do a self-marathon Jan 20. If I can get an in-law over then I'll do it and go see bro in LA.

Status:
After being totally sidelined w a knee injury etc, I've been running again for right at a year.

I'm up to 18 miles (slow). 24-hour record is 27 miles. Those are hot, humid and hilly, so I feel decent about a January marathon if I keep up current training arc.

Pre-excuses:
I'm still tweaking my fuel system with fat adaptation. And want to make sure I avoid another knee issue. Never had surgery (PT-diagnosed meniscus tear but never got MRI).

I'll start formulating a training plan tonight. I'm doing the MT Snowbowl 15k August 4. 2200 ft straight up (and then same back down). So I need to account for that.

Yeah, and my only major one (meniscus) was very much due to idiotic stuff.

I was eating like crap and drinking a lot. I ran a half marathon without proper training, then did a long bike ride the next day, and a few days later my dog ran full-speed into my knee while chasing my other dog. Then I skied 25 days on it, culminating in not being able to walk for several days.

awesome

I'm taking the week off from all training (I've got a few minor things going on right now), but plan to start pretty heavy next week.

As of right now, my weekly schedule will be:

M: Crossfit
T: Tempo run
W: Crossfit
T: Tempo
F: Sprints and/or Crossfit
S: Off
S: Long

Crossfit has lots of sprints in their workouts, so if I do sprints on M or W, I'll just do Crossfit/Oly on Friday instead of sprints.

I am eyeing a full at Biloxi in December, starting my program in mid/late August

I will be doing a 20 mile loop for a 100 mile relay on a trail race during the program and will probably do Ainsleys for the half at LA

So sure, I would be in on it

i'm going to train for a half in February though some ranch land with creeks and swampy areas. last year it was 38 degrees and raining.

should be fun so i'm down to keep this as a log

you a stravaer?

for starters, i ran a 7 miler last night on trails with some decent inclines and tried gels for the first time. i couldn't believe the difference they made on my last 2-3 miles for energy increase. i don't plan on many more of those till the fall.

I’m in.

Shooting for a November 10th marathon in Nashville. It’s my first but I’ve run two halfs this year. I’m at 15-20 miles a week the past two months so I have some base building to do. My long run right now is a max 9 miles with a few stops needed along the way.

We just had a baby last week, so it might not be feasible but I’m going to give it a go. Official training plan starts next week.

good luck.

i didn't start running till my kids were both old enough to be left at home or sometimes even go with me. i can't imagine trying to keep up the miles at that stage, but i hope it works out.

The wife is really supportive so I’ve got that going. I plan on running at 530am for shorter runs and starting at 445am for medium mid week runs. Long run on Saturday will start around 6am.

Just need the baby to get into a routine. She sleeps like a champ right now but seems to think 8pm - 2am is awake time.

Get a good jogging stroller and take the kid with you on runs. Mine always slept the entire time.

It gets hard when they get too big for the stroller and not old enough to leave alone.

Then you have to get at 4:30 am like me....

So is this the official thread?

Ran 4 miles this evening. 10:15/mile pace. About a minute slower than usual but there are a ton of hills in my neighborhood and I got 6 hours of highly interrupted sleep. I’m just glad I got outside and ran.
