What temp is too cold for golf?
What do you think is the lowest temperature you would play in?

Considering signing up for a winter pass at a local course that pays for itself after a few rounds. The deal is for December, January and February. I imagine a sunny, mid afternoon round won’t be too bad. Just trying to think if low 40s is all that cold while being mildly active

Frozen ground let’s the ball roll forever. Don’t take big divots though.

Sun vs no sun makes a huge difference in winter/fall golf.

Sunny and mid 40s is better than overcast and mid 50s

With a cart cover and a small heater, you can play when it is pretty cold. Big thing with cold weather is wind. Today the the coldest 67 degrees I have played in in some time

42 or above. Walking in cold weather can really warm you up when wearing proper gear.

Yep there’s been some days where it was freezing and I started out with long compression sleeves under a polo and a quarter zip only to go down to just a polo because I was walking.

It would have to be a combo or cold and wind. And it would depend on the group. If it’s just me then I’d rather practice, but if we got 4 or 5 or a game, then I’m in.

Yep...not a big fan of UnderArmour Golf Gear, but their Cold Gear Golf Jacket is awesome...walking and pushing a cart in cold weather, you’re going to be warm.

re: What temp is too cold for golf?
I wouldn’t want to play a round in this type of weather, but I have played in tournaments in February before where I was on the putting green at 7:15 AM with the temps around freezing.
Temps would warm up to upper 30s by 8:00 for the shotgun starts, and usually I’m shedding clothes by the third hole as the sun comes out.

For usual rounds, I’m good at 40 degrees or above.

Like most have said it’s really about the wind and the cloud cover. 50-55 sunny with no wind is great. Overcast and windy hell no.

We talking high or at tee time?

High of 50 for me.

Sun and wind are huge though.

Being from Illinois growing up I wouldn't play below 30. I remember going home a few years ago and playing on unseasonably nice day in January. Chunked an iron shot on a par 3 towards the pond. Bounced off the pond and rolled next to the hole. So I'll usually play in cool temperatures.

It all comes down to keeping your hands warm. If you can keep the feeling in your hands, the temp doesn’t matter much. If you can’t feel your hands, good luck controlling your shots.

I don't care so much about the actual temp, as I can layer-up and wear gloves.

What I can't deal with in the winter is the wind chill.

So, if it's calm and 30 degrees - I'll play.

If it's 30 with a 10MPH wind - I'm in the clubhouse drinking.

I’ll play in the Low 40s IF sunny.

Actually I’ll play if they are open.

I layer up.
I also move up a tee.

Ball goes nowhere.

Found historical temps. Highs average in the low-mid 60s. Not sure why I thought winters were colder. Sounds perfect to me.

re: What temp is too cold for golf?
Our cutoff is 50 degrees and it has to be sunny no wind.

Too many good days here in south Texas in the winter to play in bad weather.

The older you get the higher the temp needs to be. A back can be a sob when it is cold.
