and for some folks, takes away pre-shot stress and leads to better shots....lol

Chipping and putting. Once I get within 120 or so, I just melt down.

It does make sense though. I'll hit everything on the range, but spend no time practicing chipping or putting. I know what I need to do to work on it.

fairway woods off the fairway, followed by pitch shots to an elevated green on side of the elevation.

I went to a demo day in Lafayette one year at the Ambassador Range, and a vendor was showing me a fairway wood and some hybrids. I had never hit with a hybrid before that, so I asked him how do you hit it. Like a driver or an iron. He told me that with fairway woods and hybrids to hit them like they are irons and you'll get good contact every time(if your swing isn't all jacked up like mine). Low and behold he was right. At least for me. Every time I hit my 3 wood, I hit it like an iron and make great contact. I just wish I could hit my irons like irons and make good contact....lol.

Any good to really good tee shot that I have is immediately followed by this. I am a shitty golfer, but I am actually better at scrambling shots and getting up and down, than I am getting fairway shots and short chips inside 75yds. Darth Blader shows up every damn time.

Paying attention to each shot. Every round, I have a couple shots I can look back on and know, I rushed through it.

Every part of my game has its good days and bad days. I probably have the most trouble most often with putting. Reads are good but speed control isn't as always as good as it should be.

I find that any time that I spend on putting and practice chipping shows more than spending an hour at the range hitting irons and driver.

What are you using in it's place? I have tried my 3iron on occasion, and sometimes I hit it much better, others the same(Bad).

I've been going 3 Wood or 2 Hybrid on short/manageable par 4's. Oddly enough, i've got no problem putting those clubs in play. I'll only break out the driver on a long par 4 or par 5. I've gotta get over it though. Need to be able to get more distance off the tee so I can get some manageable approach shots on the longer holes.

Line the ball up with the front side of my chest, not decelerating either. I’m in my head about sweeping the ball and it shoots off to the right hard

After spending a bunch of time on the range working on my 56* inside of 100 yards I was finally feeling good with it. Then I didn't play for 2 weeks and hit two hosel rockets with it in my last round.

golf is frustrating

Getting off the tee, staying in the short grass. Right now I’m probably six out of 10 at 180 to 210 yards. I was about the same with my hybrid’s trying to get extra distance on my second shot . But I’ve learned to just keep hitting the four and five iron instead to keep third shot in play from 130 and in. Let’s my hacking, ever changing swing , beer drinking and ball busting arse enjoy a round of 85-100.

I've lowered my handicap by 5 strokes since Jan 1, and it's still going down. I moved onto a golf course at the end of last year so I play a lot. Every part of my game has significantly improved except for one, the fricking driver.

I don't even hit the ball very far, but I still can't consistently hit it.

I three putt way too much and I am not consistent enough when it comes to ball striking.

A good recipe for shooting around 90, which is about my average.

Normally it is my sand game. I know the technique for hitting explosion shots but it is an absolute disaster when I try one. I actually have a lot better results just picking the ball out of the bunker just like hitting a chip off of a tight lie.

However this year something else has popped up that has absolutely destroyed my game. I have been playing golf for 45 years and have never had this problem until this year. Normally chipping and putting are the strengths of my game but this year I am hitting chip after chip after chip dead right in an almost reverse shank like result. I don't do it every chip but when I do it on one chip I do it on the next ten chips after it as well. I also have the problem with full short irons but it is not as bingy and purgy as my chips. It will be like one good shot one suck shot ratio while my chips will be like 30 good chips in a row and then 15 awful ones in a row. Finally broke down and took a lesson (first one I've ever taken in my life other than from my high school golf coach). He had me close up my grip a little and that has seemed to stabilize the chipping but there is still no consistency in my short irons.

Chipping by far. However if I hit better approach shots I would not have to chip as much. I once read that the second shot takes more strokes off your game than anything for a high handicapper anyway

This is not true. The pencil eraser takes more shots off your game than anything else.
