Whenever they fail to get a short chip up on the green in thick rough. I know its hard, but to see the look of defeat as their ball goes 2ft and know I've had that look many, many times before makes me not feel quite so bad.

Definitely the hosel rocket. Made me feel great watching Rory hit one off a scoreboard sometime last year

Didn't he still make par?

They hit these shots and what makes them great is still get up/down or better yet make birdie after these shots.

I saw Bruce Litzke cold top a driver about a 100 yards at the TPC Woodlands on the 15th Par 5...

He looked at the crowd and said it happens to everyone laughing.

He crushed a 4 wood for his second shot and stuck a wedge to a foot, made the putt and hollered a "Routine Birdie" !

golf is an odd sport because its all about consistency, but everyman golfer can still hit a "pro" level shot from time to time.

I can't dunk a basketball
I can't hit an 87 mph slider
I couldn't return a 135 mph serve

but dammit every once in a while i can drop a 7 iron with 6inche of the flag, or hit a perfect flop shot.

The one I remember most vividly is Ben Crane. He was on Hole 16 or so leading a tournament several years ago. He was in the middle of the fairway going into a par 5 in 2 with a 3 wood. He completely tops it and it rolls about 60 yards into a bunker.

Hitting into the lip when trying to get out of a fairway bunker or just failing to get out of a green side bunker.

The shot that goes over the green going 100 mph only to hit a hospitality tent or the gallery and ricochet back on the green.
Regular golfers never get that advantage.

HVIII's cold arse top at Riviera on 10 with a share of the lead this past year.

I've been driving the ball well over the past month or two, but my misses have been either a high push with a few complete cold arse tops thrown in just like he did on that hole.

I’d say the chili dipped chip from a tight green side lie to an elevated green, and the ball rolls back to their feet.

no doubt, its satisying when they frick up.

Whats crazy though is that they usually follow up a frick up with an insandely good shot.

Happend yesterday in the tournament, a dude cut his drive badly into a creek, dropped and dunked the wedge. Those guys are stupid good at the next shot.

Knowing Litzke, it was the first golf shot he had hit since his last tournament. The guy just never practiced. I’m sure everyone has heard the banana story. Litzke was all about fishing.
