Just got a set of new TM irons. Was hitting them solid at the store, and got fit for standard loft and length and 3* up lie.

I can’t hit anything below the 8. Almost everything off the heel and shanked to the right.

Could the lie angle be too upright? Or just adjusting to much better clubs? I’ve read a too upright lie angle would cause pulls and hooks.

Woah. That’s very upright for standard length. My clubs are an inch long and only 2* up.

I didn’t hit my new set well at first. Just remember, you are allowed to get the clubs dirty. Hit down on it

OP, same swing weight? Same shaft weight?

I find TM heads to "feel" a little lighter. Could be that you're not used to something about the weighting yet and you're losing the club head.

I listened to the golfwrx podcast with the guys from Artisen Golf in Fort Worth Tx. They are the guys that built all the clubs for the Oven, the tour department for Nike golf. In the conversation the club builders knew every single detail of the club down to the weight of the tape being added to the clubs. Now, they don't make irons for retail, yet, but they still forge irons for select individuals (pros). In the same discussion he noted the difference between big OEMS (Titleist, TM, Callaway, etc) and noted the difference from club to club and set to set of the SAME setups had a higher % variance for mistakes/inconsistencies. That is insane for sets that sell for $1,000+. I was "fitted" for a TM M2 440 with the hzrds shaft. On the range absolute bomb. Get the club I just paid $600+ for and its been a nightmare, snap hooks followed by high fades??? Just zero consistency compared to the club I hit on the range.

This is why I have always shyed away from larger OEM's and been a Mizuno guy. It has been long noted they have significantly higher standards for every set that leaves the factory. Call me biased but every time I get new irons, my iron game doesn't miss a beat. I did not feel the same way when we got Titleist gave us our sets in college (AP2's with S400) and even at my level I could notice a difference between the two 7 irons I had.

That Tin Cup pic was from the driving range about a mile from my house at Kingwood CC.

I've found Ping to be pretty good on the production side. Not nearly as sporadic as some of the other stuff out there.

what were your old irons? were they close to the same? That seems pretty extreme to have standard length and 3 upright.

When you say that you can't hit anything below the 8, does that mean that you can't hit the 8,9 and wedge or vice versa? I always say below as the higher numbers.

Used to really love Mizuno's but gave up on them probably 8 years ago when I started playing Srixon. I'm now playing their 745s and have yet to find a better feeling club to swing and through impact.
I really wanted to love the Mizuno's more, but Srixon won hands down. I feel the design and craftsmanship is similar to what Mizuno used to be.

I had the same issue with my TM 790s. Lighter club head than my prior set is what I chalked it up to. I’ve learned to hit them really well and the heightened club head awareness they require compared to my last set has me hitting a cleaner shot.

I picked up my old irons (Ping G) last week and can hit those like a champ now but I’ve stuck with my TMs for now.

Srixon has really done a great job creating new blades and player cavity backs. The 745’s are very very pure.

Old clubs were 30 year old Hogans. I’m guessing they were standard lie. Always closed the face a little to avoid pushing right.

Can’t hit 4-7 with these just lining up normally. Shankapotomus.

3* upright does seem extreme for the average golfer. If you're tall that's one thing.

I am going to go with different weights. Good luck curing the shanks... they've been hell this summer

I was between mixing and Srixon at my fitting. The numbers and feel just didn’t lie. I love my Srixon 565s

Apex blades? Edge heads were really heavy for what I remember while the Apex blades were pretty light. If you had the original shaft in your old Hogans, that might be one of the big differences too, those Apex shafts were funky shafts and similar to the Callaway uniflex shafts.
