If someone wants to explain how he won this over Brooks, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Know Rory had an awesome season from a strokes gained standpoint, but they both had 3 wins

Rory - Canadian, Players, Tour Championship
Brooks - CJ Cup, PGA, WGC

Major finishes

Rory - T-21, T-9, T-8, MC
Brooks - T-2, 1, 2nd, T-4

I can see either one winning. The Tour Championship had to have played a big part.

I would love to see a primetime winner take all tournament between Rory and Brooks.

Man, some peers really don't like Koepka

RORY
14 Top 10's out of 19 events played
Scoring Average Leader
Total Strokes Gained leader
3 Wins including The Players and Tour Championship
FexEx Cup Winner

BROOKS
9 Top 10's
Regular Season Points and Money Leader
4th in Scoring Average
9th in Total Strokes Gained
3 Wins including a Major
Outstanding record in all 4 majors

I guess they looked at the total year and consistency... not just the majors.

You might of missed the part where Rory had 14/19 top 10s and won the FedEx Cup as well.

Rory basically didn't show up in the 4 biggest events of the year. Kind of showed up at the US, but the other 3 majors he was not remotely in contention.

Brooks would get my vote.

Hopefully this will set up a nice little rivalry between the two. Would love to see them in a final pairing at a major next year.

But he won #5 and #6.

I think this was a very close year for POTY... I can understand the argument from both sides.

This is what the casual golf fan looks at and remembers. This was voted on by the players. They value consistency over a season far more than casual fans do. Rory won the Players Championship and Fed ex Cup, the two biggest purses in golf, led the tour in total strokes gained and was consistently good all year.

I'd have voted for Rory.

I think popularity played a big part in this.

Popularity contest, no doubt.

All of the biggest names look at their season as a failure if they didn’t compete in the majors. I watch more golf than maybe anyone on this board. I’m not saying Rory wasn’t incredible. He was. But when you’re basically non existent in the 4 biggest tournaments and the other guy also had an outstanding season and was incredible there, he’s the pick.

Whose season would Rory rather have? If you exclude $ from the FedEx Cup, it’s not close.

I think this was the deciding factor.

Rory beat Brooks head to head on Sunday with the FedEx Cup on the line.

The award is not who played the best in the majors, it's who had the best year and I think it was Rory. We aren't talking about a big difference here, it's splitting hairs.

It was a toss up. Rory won the strongest field tournament as well as the Tour Championship. Also most players are tired of the koepka stuff.

If I were a player, I’d be tired of him only showing up for majors and putting it my arse too.

You have 0 clue if this is true or not

Why would you exclude that? It's part of the year and it's obviously a really big deal to the players.
