Question on ball position

I’ve been trying to work on ball position. Over the past year or so, I’ve gradually went to having a too forward ball position on most, if not all, clubs in my bag. Question is: where are you guys positioning a stock 8 iron? Pitching wedge? Even 6 iron? I feel way more comfortable with the short and mid irons being a little ahead of center. But that could be from playing it way too far up over the past year or two.

Many of the greats varied on ball position, Nicklaus played everything off his left heel from a little forward of center up as the clubs got longer as most faders do. Most drawers trend more back.
Whats your shot shape? Are you sliding to get to it? Just too many variables.

I know I'm weird, but I play 7 iron about center. Everything lower is closer to my back foot, and anything higher (5-6) is just a smidge further up in my stance. My PW is just inside my back right foot.
I know the "correct" way is the ball should line up with your left pec muscle, and you widen your stance the longer the club. My positioning just works for me since it's all I've ever done.

Funny you ask shot shape, I draw the ball with the driver and that’s my natural swing and shot shape. With the irons I’ve struggled with an over the top pull or a push right off the toe. Hoping positioning it back a little will help me with being able to hit the baby draw like with the driver.

Driver & 3 wood - Left heel
Hyrbrid, 4-7i - between heel and center
8-SW - Center

Do you also ignore the rule where you're supposed to overlap your right pinky? If so, we're the same golfer.

Wedges - dead center
9i-3i - 1 ball width forward of center
Driver / 3W - off inside of left heel

Perfect lie trying to hit it straight...
Wedge is probably slightly right of center. 8i is probably right on center line. 6 irons is just left of center.
I don't get too drastic with ball position for shots I intend to hit straight. But I'm not doing that often. If I need/want a cut or need to hit it higher, its going forward. Lower flights and draws it's going further back. My driver is almost always on my left toe, maybe even a little outside of the left toe because I really focus on hitting up with the driver.

I really like mostly everything stated. I think your thoughts on cuts and moving them up is why I have moved it back a little. Appreciate all the responses!

I just star with the ball between my feet.
Then I wide my stance using back foot until comfortable.
With driver, this puts ball at left I step or so.
With 5, 6, 7 iron, Shirt logo.
With 8 through wages, center.
I’ll move it up a bit to hit higher.

I have been following Hogan
All ball positions remain the same just inside left heel w left foot open about 25 degrees
Stance widens as the degree of the club lowers, w right foot slightly fwd on high irons, even w middle irons, and back on low irons and woods

Well, I don’t hit it like him, but haven’t stopped trying.
If I could get better results by changing ball position, I would do it
But adding more variables hasn’t worked in the past
