My opinion only. Maintenance on all the sand traps seems to be an all day job everyday. A lot of the greenside traps were not raked the day we played. Several times our fore caddie would pick our ball up and rake the area and replace the ball. Some of the greenside traps are do deep that you may not be able to see the pin{3 & 17} Greens, tees, and fairways are in perfect condition. Knee high rough is tuff.
A lot of blind tee shots. Played on August 20. It was not crowded, but if it is busy, you may need a hard hat. Several tee boxes are too close to the greens. It was 96 degrees the day we played and there is very little shade.
We played Mossy Oak.

Mossy Oak needs some time to mature but will be a great course. The natural areas had not filed in when we played so it was mainly mud outside the first cut of rough.

Our forecaddie was awful at Mossy Oak. Cost everyone strokes, didn't know yardages, had to borrow our range finder.

Old Waverly is #1 in the state for a reason, enjoy, it's a challenge and always in immaculate condition, have not played Mossy Oak yet.

I have not been back to the area since Mossy Oak was finished, but I played Old Waverly 5-10 times during grad school and each time was a treat. A really well laid-out course that gives ya options, but keeps ya honest as well. Conditions were great every time.

Still the fastest and purest bermuda greens I've ever putt on. I honestly thought they didn't need another course out that way, Old Waverly is such a gem in it's own right.

2 inches short of a ace on 12. Prettiest 8i I've ever hit, if only I had swung 1% harder.

I grew up in Columbus and have played Waverly many times and played mossy oak probably 10 times since it's opened

Waverly is still my favorite. Traditional southern course that's a ton of fun and always in great condition. Make sure to stop at the turn and get the soft serve ice cream

Mossy oak, as another poster said, needs a little more time to grow in the native grasses that will really give the course some teeth. Still a very hard course and completely different style than you will traditionally find in the south. Greens are fast and in good shape. Still haven't finished the clubhouse, parking lot/entrance but the course is great. Csb but Steve Harvey is a founding member

Saw an article that as soon as the LSU/State game date was official their phones were ringing off the hook with LSU people booking tee times.

Yea, Gil Hanse designed it that way so it is an easier walking course.

I played in a 4 man scramble there about a month or so ago and it rained so much the days before that they didn't allow players to use carts so everyone had to walk. I carried my bag the first day and it was absolutely brutal. There's zero shade and I swear the par 3 15th at the top of a hill might be the hottest spot in mississippi.

We have 10 of us headed up for the LSU game; staying at Old Waverly. We did the same in 2015. We are playing Friday around 1 and Saturday morning. It's a beautiful course. The clubhouse and locker room are a treat. The bar area in the locker room is cool. You sit there in your robe after steaming and there's a little corner bar where young female bartenders serve you drinks.
