Looking for new irons
Alright guys, it’s finally time to trade in the old irons. I shoot low to mid 80s typically but kids are will be in school all day starting in August so I’ll be ready to dedicate a little more time.

Anybody got recs? Hit Titleist 718 AP3 today. Tried the Ping g400s. When it gets a little warmer I want to try a few others before getting fit.

I have the g400’s. Played 2 rounds and really like them so far.

I’d give the Mizuno JPX 900 a look

Go to some demo days. Be patient. Test multiple clubs/shafts. Don’t fall in love with distance; club lofts are outrageous in the “game improvement” market.

Try:

Callaway Apex Cf16
Ping G400
Titleist AP1
Srixon Z565
Mizuno JPX EZ or even Forged

Getting fit for these next week. I played a round with a demo set, and I liked them. They're the perfect blend of the AP1 and AP2.

Really, just find a head that you like if you're going with one of the major brands. Definitely make sure you get fit, if possible. If you get the wrong shaft, or end up with standard lie angles when you need 2 up or 2 flat; you'll be leaving strokes out there.

I'm a big fan of Ping. Taylor M2's are nice as well.

I just got the Srixon 565 and love them. The AP3s were on my radar, but I just fell in love with the Srixons

I like seeing the Ping love.

Try Ping i200 as well. A little less clunky than the G400 irons and feel is superb.

I have Mizuno JPX Tour/Forged now. If I were shopping, I'd definitely hit the TM 790s before I bought anything else.

I hit them and really didn't like them at all. Great suggestion on the Mizunos. It was down to those, AP3s, and the Srixons for me. The Srixons just felt/looked best to me and had the best numbers.

Hit them all OP.

Lots of people are loving Srixon irons. Very underrated it seems.

I can't speak for older iterations, but the last 2 versions of their irons (the 45's and 65's) are butter. Same thing for the hybrids.

They apparently are awesome about free customizing. My custom work (2*up), shafts (+1, project X 6.0), and grips (MCC midsize) were all free.

I really can't talk them up enough.

Do other companies actually charge to get longer shafts and lofts changed

I'm not sure about lofts and length, but they will charge for a shaft and grip upgrade.

I have the Ping G400 irons with the Recoil 95 shafts.

Stupid easy to hit, they just want to go straight.

re: Looking for new irons
I probably need to go with game improvement irons but can’t help but think I may regret not going with blades. That’s why the AP3 are intriguing to me bc best of both worlds. I did hit the G400s well though.

Mizuno JPX 900 Forged or Hot Metal. There's a reason some of the tour guys are using them without getting paid.

This is starting to change - Bridgestone is offering 10 different shaft and grip options free of charge with the purchase of their new iron set. Obviously an effort to stay competitive. People don't want to spend 1200-1500 on a new set of irons only to have to turn around and pay more money to get them fit to their specs.
