Helping an out of state friend organize a group trip to lake Charles.
Currently they’re looking to book at Lauberge and play Contraband Bayou.
However they want to place the “nicer” course. Or possibly two courses. 18 Friday, 36 Saturday.

What are your opinions and how do you rank? Contraband, Grey, Nugget.
Any other courses to consider?

Gray Plantation looks great right now. Definitely play that one.

If you can get a comp at Nugget it is a different looking course, fun to play, and well maintained.
It's not worth the $129 (with card) but if you can get on for free or discounted I would recommend it.

If you want to run about 30 minutes up the road go play Koasati Pines at Coushatta Resort in Kinder. It's well worth the drive in my opinion.

Another poster mentioned the Lake Charles Country Club... that is a private course that you will need a member to gain access. If you have that access I highly recommend it also. Very well maintained and nice layout.

Contraband Bayou is nice too.

MY RANKING:
1. Koasati
2. Gray
3. Nugget
4. LCCC (private)
5. Contraband
6. National
7. Frasch/Mallard
8. Mallard/Frasch

That's pretty accurate. I like Koasati the best out of those on the list, but I wouldn't drive to Kinder just to play it, IMO. I hate that drive. Gray would be my recommendation as the best place in the area(value/condition).

Know someone who played Nugget last week and it was in awesome shape. He had a comped round though, didn't play full price. He said it's probably the best course, condition wise, in Lake Charles.

Contraband really isn't that bad of a place to play. It's low on my list but I enjoy it when I go.

the trip last year they played Koasati and Gray.

Looks like they might try to do the 18 at the Nugget on Friday, then contraband Bayou 36 saturday.

Nugget is nicest but not worth the green fees to me. It should be a $70-$90 course. Not $150

Contraband is pretty good. Any where from $50-70

Gray is best bang for your buck. Nicer than Contraband IMO. Around $55.
