Sorry, first time poster on this board, so if this type of thread is annoying I apologize...

So I put down the clubs for about a year or so, and decided to start swinging again this week.. well every single ball I hit, whether it’s off of my PW or my driver (ESPECIALLY my driver), my ball has anywheres from a slight fade to a downright nasty slice..

I’ve tried playing with my grip, I’ve tried changing the plane of my swing, I’ve tried adjusting my stance and ball placement, yet I cannot correct it.

Any tips/suggestions? Should I take up disc golf? Bowling?

TIA

Might head to the range if I don’t go to the camp when I get off, if I do, I’ll try to post a video or two of my swing for analysis

Golf pros on here may be around shortly to sort you out.

But it sounds like you are either 1. swinging out to in ... or 2. leaving your club face open.
Casting, early hip turn, etc.

Try checking your wrist position at the top of you backswing. Make sure it's level or even slightly turned in.

Try to focus more on a steady and technically correct take away.

Try keeping your head down and driving your weight forward rather than focusing on rotating.
(Hips rotating first has been a recent problem of mine.)

The last thing I do is to play with the ball location to help encourage a better swing plane.

Of course. just a hacker here... trying to help.

I play 3 times a week.
One day I can’t turn it left.
One day I can’t turn it right.
Deal with it. This is your first day back.
Hit balls for a week or two and come back and post your results from now to then. Surely you’ll see a difference.

If everything is slicing and you’ve tried swing plane and grip, you may be too close to the ball

Assuming you’re right handed...

Does the ball start left of target line and then turn right?

Or

Does the ball start right and go further right?

it’s usually on target before either fading or slicing. I’d guess maybe 150-200 yards before bending, but that’s just an estimate

Definitely late movement though, if I’m understanding your question correctly

I feel like this is more than likely the culprit. The few guys I’ve talked to out there this week have all said my swing looks on plane.. how much their opinion is worth, idk, but it’s a start

This is a good point and something I’ve always had trouble with. Maybe I need to put more emphasis on it. Had the same problem with my baseball swing as well

Where do you recommend ball placement? Just inside the front foot? This is something I’ve played around with also

You are coming across the ball (out to in). I deal with it constantly and can be a few different things from my observation of my poor swing (and a few things I do to get it under control.

Impact position- take note of where the back of your left hand is at impact, it should be facing the target (or said differently, make sure it’s not getting held up in the hinged position).

starting your downswing- biggest problem for me, and I would imagine most the suffer a slice. I notice when this is going really bad for me, I start the swing way to quickly/aggressive at the top. Try getting the feeling of the club dropping before you go after it.

Misalignment on the ball- you are out of practice, and you eyes are tricking you. Concentrate on the ball going forward, make your practice swings send force forward (not just generally to your left). Worry more about this than where you are aimed, I find that aiming is the hardest part and good aim requires trust and knowledge of your own swing.

Try swinging shorter clubs only to correct this. The long clubs will inherently compound these problems. You are essentially out of sequence and the longer club will compound this problem because there is more time to get out of place.

Try hitting pitch shots and work up from there. Also, go to the takeaway position, hold it, and make your body turn the club into the ground when you make practice swings. That first little piece of your takeaway is crucial, don’t pull the club toward you.

This worked for me. Stand with the wall on your left, take small snow backswings and on the follow through touch the wall with the toe of the Club, you should be far enough away from the wall that your arms can extend, this will groove that bottom of your swing to help you get to the left side, think of a clock, go from 6-8-4 o’clock (your head is 12)

Any time I start loosing it way right I do this, even on the course using my bag, a tree or a golf cart as the wall.

Also, your flutes are probably weak AF right now. Dead lift baw

If it’s starting pretty straight it’s probably a clubface issue and not a path issue.

Try speeding up your arms a little...feel like they start down at the same time your hips start in the downswing.

One thing that has helped me more than anything was slow down my take away. I picked up a club for the first time this past Saturday since October and hit it fairly decent and it was all due to that. Don't forget to put a club/stick or something on the ground to get your alignment right also.

Until you post a video of your swing, all you are going to get are general comments (club face open, swinging out to in, etc.) that aren’t going to help you at all. There are a hundred different reasons your swing could produce a slight fade to a nasty slice. Trying to close your club face or swing more in to out is only going to make things worse.

If you can, provide more details about your grip, alignment, stance, club length, etc. You may think you have the ball in the correct position, or alignment is flush, but usually looking at those things in the first person produces a different result than someone else looking from outside the swing.
