I hit my irons about the same distance as the guys I play with, but my driver does not get out there with them.

I am taking a lesson Tuesday with our club pro to work on this issue.

I am having to use fairway woods on 3 par 4s even if I hit a decent drive.

I was fitted, but I think the 46” shaft may be a little long for me to feel comfortable. My main miss is left. We have some forced carries so low left is stroke and distance.

Do any of you use a shorter driver?
Would you get a new shaft or have it cut down?

Just wait to see what the pro says. My guess is that you're getting too much spin with your driver, probably hitting down with it.

This has always been my problem. i built my swing to hit irons because most of the courses I play are shorter and I can hit a 3 or 4 iron off the tee on most par 4s. Now that i don't play as much I really struggle off the tee like I never have.

I went to a short driver when i played a lot years ago, i put a 43" steel shaft in an old Taylormade r7 driver. I could hit it head high and fly the ball about 250 with it. On a dry course I could get it out there about 310 to 320 but on a wet course or long fairways the ball would just die. I was as straight with that driver as I have ever been with a driver in my hand. No one else I ever played with could hit it though because it weighed so much and felt so heavy.

You guys are right.

I will listen to the pro.

I probably am too steep into the ball.

He had me open stance a good bit to help clear my hips.

I need to add speed at the bottom of the swing, but I’m keeping the ball in play more off the tee.

How do you guys drill to add speed at the proper time ?

I’m trying to keep right elbow close, and accelerate swing gradually as club gets to my waist.

I swing a 44” driver. I’ve had the same Ahina moved and placed into my last 3 drivers.

Are you a righty or a lefty? If you are a righty and your miss tends to be left, you might not be steep enough, honestly. Generally, a steep AoA creates a slice.

Sounds like you've got it figured out with a lesson though.

Did the instructor not give you any drills? did you just go for a swing diagnosis?

I'm the same way, I think i get too much spin also.

I can hit my 19 degree 3 hybrid 220, my driver 250.

My swing has changed alot since i bought the driver. It's probably time for a new one.

We mostly worked on setup.

We also talked about inverting the club and making it whoosh past the ball.

Set up was a big focus. Alignment. It was a 30 minute session. We are just trying to keep it in play by making square contact.

I want to add speed for more distance, but it will take time.

The thing with speed through the swing is that it is a gradual process. You can't just wake up one day and decide that "i'm gonna swing faster today." You will more than likely just start swinging HARDER and that does not equal FASTER. It has to be a gradual increase, where you see small improvements over, lets say, a 6 month time frame. Keep working on the set up, and eventually the speed will come. There are many drills or utensils that will claim they can increase your swing speed, but I have found them to be mostly crap. Once you feel confident with your "new" setup and routine, I would go to YouTube and see if there is a drill or two that you like. It never hurts to view more than one person's opinion. I would just search Increase swing speed drills and check some out.

disclaimer: There will always be videos of regular people claiming they have the answer. most of the good swing instructors should have a certified account of videos on YouTube.

I haven't seen your swing but learning to create and hold lag then releasing it at the right point will increase your clubbed speed. I warm up with the Skilz Tempo Trainer. It really helps you feel where you're releasing the clubhead. But I'd follow Beaver's advice and once you've developed that good muscle memory then you can start working on lag.

Thanks guys.

Mixed results on course thus far.

I played 9 after work yesterday.

Split fairway on 1,2,6,and 7.

Over the top on 3 and 9.

On 5 I hit a sky ball.

I think I’m coming over the top because of adding speed at the wrong time.

Will work on range tomorrow. The setup seems good. Just getting tense over the ball now and then
