I still get emails from my old country club
Posted by Placebeaux on 1/8/18 at 5:36 am70
Dear Fellow Members,
It has been decided that effective March 1st, we will be increasing dues by $25/month for every stockholder. This notice is in accordance with Ellendale CC bylaws.
This decision did not come easy, and is the result of a lack of revenue to cover existing expenses. The board and each department head will be implementing cost cutting measures effective January 1st to ease the blow to any cash strain on our cash balance.
If you have any questions, please contact us via the business office.
LOL Maybe if y'all didn't cater to a certain group of rich assholes that wiped their arse with the course and basic golf etiquette you'd have more members. I guess all that big oil service money dried up right after they spent 1.5 million on new greens. I'm sure this place will be ok in the long run and moving forward hopefully they learned a lesson about treating all members equal.

That may be a low-enough to keep their members. A big increase has to be enough to offset the members to leave.

I don't think $25 a month is going to cause anyone to leave

Didnt say it would. A lot of members already left. The assholes in charge and a group of a-hole members is why they are in a bind financially.

Why are they a holes?

That's a problem at a lot of golf courses, even public ones.

When the club pro allows 8somes on the course and those 8some dont let 1s and 2s play through. That's just one example

One of many. Played this weekend. For the first time in a year. frick that place. Glad I quit.
They drove up membership by offering discounts for people not living in Houma. Then they try to hit us up for the new green fees. The greens were fine. They rushed the project as I said they would and the greens have been shite since.

Some of what you’re saying may be true, but I’m fairly certain the main reason they are in a bind is because it’s a private golf course in Houma which has been one of the hardest hit cities in the state due to oil crashing.
I’m sure you know that though and are just trying to make a statement that Ellendale has a-hole members (which it does), but so does every private country club.
ETA: last time I played the greens seemed to be getting better. I’m sure the recent cold has squashed that though.

I joined this club about six months ago and literally every member that I have met and played with has been extremely nice. This includes most of the upper members in the club. The whole experience has been an absolute pleasure and for the the low price point relative to other clubs is a steal.
The greens are a tad spotty but we had a historic stretch of rain in the area followed by this snap of cold. Tough to get any type of grass right when that’s the hand you are dealt. Other than that I find that the course is actually very well cared for. Twenty five extra dollars still comes in low for the level of the club and I don’t think I’ll be cancelling any time soon.

I guess they don't have enough people left to have 8somes.
It used to cost 225 per month and 15 for a cart. I'd still rather drive and play Atchafalaya.

Ive never seen a group of 8 out there. There are some weekend regulars that play two groups of 5 on back to back tee times, but I’ve personally witnessed them keep up with a 3-some. They play quick.

Then drive and play Atchafalaya. They can't hold you down and make you pay dues. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Yeah they have the regulars that you mentioned playing two groups of four and five. I don’t see how anyone could find something wrong with that though.

I drive to Atchafalaya with a smile on my face. Ellendale is going to go the way of Willowdale.

I have witnessed so many singles and doubles complain about not being able to play through when the foursomes are two or three or four deep in front of them and playing fast. It makes no sense. It is one of the most common complaints. I don’t get it. Why would multiple groups that are playing fast let someone through?

Yeah, if they are playing behind pace of play then it’s one thing. But if they are playing quick, then what’s the issue? They’re following the rules anyway.
Though admittedly, this isn’t OP’s gripe. He says Ellendale routinely lets groups > 5 play, which I’ve never seen out there, and I’ve been playing Ellendale with my dad since I was a kid. It definitely does seem to be a good ole boys club though. There are some members that are total jackass’ and think they own the place, but that’s typical of most private clubs.

Exactly. OP seems like a whiner either way. Strikes me as the type of person that would find something to bitch about if they were a member at Augusta. Especially since the complaints are mostly regarding people at the club. Usually when someone says everyone in a collective group is an a-hole then they don’t have the ability to look inward. I’m not saying that there aren’t any assholes in any private club but which scenario seems more likely?
Also I wanted to confer that I have not once seen a group bigger than five and even that’s rare. I am at the club three or more days per week as well. Even if there are three foursomes stacked in front of you and you are playing by yourself, what is the best outcome overall? If they all three let you play through then it slows the whole flow down more. The pro out there knows what he is doing and I literally haven’t had to wait on anyone, including a large group, since I joined. I know that is probably luck of the draw but I always say that’s what I like about the place.

I tell you what was the last straw. I'm on the driving range hitting balls fella comes out there says driving range is closing. Fine pick up the buckets. I have balls that I already poured out the bucket that I'm hitting. Now there is no gate to this range, there is nothing to lock up, homeboy starts picking up the balls that I already have gathered up. I'm like WTF. So I said okay you like picking up balls I dumped every f****** bucket out left on the Range and walk the f*** off. The next day I sold my stock.
