Unfortunately I’m still waiting for the clubs to get here.

For anyone that has been fitted, how did it change your game?

I’m looking forward to getting my clubs and seeing how it affects my game.

Did you do the whole bag or just irons? I’ve never been fitted but I’m not at a point where i believe that a fitting is the correct next step. On that same note, are you a mid or low handicap?

Never been fitted professionally, but I tinkered over the past few years and found ideal combinations of heads paired with the right shafts.

Results have been added distances, consistency, which has translated into confidence. I am still tinkering with the wedge department. Might get fitted there soon.

ETA: For those downvoting, it's not that hard to research ideal spin numbers for your swing speed, and then research the shafts that give you that. For those that don't want to shell out $$ for a fitting and then $1000 for a driver with an OEM shaft in it.

I think fittings are way over rated.

I think you're right, that's why none of the really good players do it.

I'm sure they would suck if they did not get fitted.

I did an iron fitting earlier this year at the David Toms 265 Academy. The results have been pretty good as it has minimized the off-center hits on my irons. A fitting will obviously not improve bad swings, but the misses aren’t as bad as they were before.

I tend to think of it as insurance for my golf game . . . peace of mind that I am swinging the proper set-up and one less thing to worry about. The cost of the fitting is cheap compared to constantly trying to buy new clubs to find something that works.

Enjoy your new clubs!

Getting fit for irons changed my game completely. I went from low teens to single digits. My irons game is with out a doubt my weakest point of my game. Now, it’s course management and staying focused for an entire round.

Data out there suggests the exact opposite where not enough people are getting fit and just buying clubs based on advertisements. You are by far the worst poster on this board.

Getting a true fitting isn't just loft, lie, length... My fitter checks swing weights, grips, and more. We are looking at way more than distance. And once items are ordered, they're rechecked and I can go back any time for a tune up and check on the numbers. It's so thorough that we only do one piece at a time. Too many swings for irons and woods at once.

No doubt that they have more talent than the rest of us, but why not maximize whatever amount of talent that you have?

Basically what ell said. It’s not just about swing speed either it’s about tempo, transition etc when it comes to shafts having the proper bend profile at your delivery. Fittings get you the ideal set up for you in all aspects as mentioned earlier.

It’s not a magical cure, but it should give you consistency and tight dispersion based off your delivery. But, it doesn’t override bad strikes, but it can help minimize the damage from those.

What’d you get?

Fitting for any level of golfer is very important if you’re interested in lowering scores. For high-caps, a better fitting club will reduce the variance of bad shots and help keep it in play more often.

For low-caps, you want to be dialed in so your good shots are more precise and closer to the hole.

If you’re already buying new clubs, the fitting is not a significant extra cost, so it doesn’t make sense not to do it IMO.

Getting fitted narrows your outcomes. As people have discussed, that narrows your dispersion. The result is a narrower range of scores. Instead of shooting anywhere between 77-90, you might go to 75-84.

As a 9 hcp/index, you won't get too much lower. Most people bottom out somewhere around 4-6 because the difference between that and scratch is short game and practice. Most people don't have the time to maintain that kind of short game.

However, your rounds are more enjoyable when your clubs are in tune with your swing. Misses are more manageable and "blow-up holes" are less frequent.

That's what I am really looking to improve. I feel like I will be able to be more consistent with clubs fit to my swing. I hope that turns out to be the case.
