Helping put together a bachelor party in Houston. I don't know much about the area, looking around online Gus Wortham looks to be around where we want to be location wise and not too expensive while still pretty nice (a lot of the crew will be solely there to party and aren't gonna want to pay top dollar to hack around an expensive course). Anybody got any notes on it? Or recs for other places? Thanks in advance

I haven’t been there since it was re done but it was a goat ranch prior to that. It was closed for over a year for renovations and re-opened not too long ago.

Layout is good, greens are ok. But fairways are grass over hardpan. Played it a few times and just needs a couple of years to mature grass wise. But if you're just in it for cheap golf go for it.

Played a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I'm absolutely awful, so my opinion is basically worthless, but I found the greens very challenging. Fast and sloped.

Also they dont sell beer, but supply ice if you want to byob.

Pros:
They are cool with byob so that’s nice.
Taco truck at the turn is damn good.
It’s in much better shape

Cons:
Usually a slow round
Very easy to hit a car on the first 3 holes

Did they redesign the course at all or are there still 3 par 5s in a row?

Another thing I always thought was weird is most holes are short yet there is a 235 yard par 3 on the back.

I know. When me and my buddy rode up to the tee box we both started laughing. I hit a horrible slice and we both knew what was coming

I saw this when I was looking at the course layout. My first thought was there has to be a big elevation change, ala 17 at the Bluffs, but it's hard to imagine that in Houston. Is it just a flat 235? If so I better get my mind right, I don't think I have ever hit my 3 wood on a par 3 before lol

If you hit it in the water you can pay a bum from the bushes to dive for your ball.

It’s flat and on the back nine so it causes a logjam because no one hits the green. In my experience, It’s a heavy drinking crowd on the course so it’s a sloppy hole

It’s definitely not down hill, may even be uphill, but it’s been a little while since I played it.

Is anyone going to ask wtf you would want to be around Gus Wortham for a bachelor party?

I’m guessing it’s just 2-3 miles from downtown. If they’re staying around Minute Maid, the EADO area, etc. it’s close enough to get a quick, fun round in. They may just be Ubering everywhere.

Also said the group is mostly hackers so no reason to pay for a ‘nice’ course.

It does sort of remind me about a group of guys I ran into in Austin once on Roy Kizer. They had 10 guys so me and my buddy got paired with two of them. They were a lot of fun, but were down in Austin in a bachelor party trip. After talking to them, it seemed everything they had done (golf, strip club, restaurant, etc) were all in that southeast area around the airport. We were thinking that’s prob the most boring part of Austin, but I guess they were staying in a hotel by the airport and just Ubering everywhere. I had never heard of half the places they mentioned going to. Where the hell is Divas?

Nailed it. The bachelor said wants to fit in an Astros game and a round of golf on the trip, I'm trying to plan accordingly.
