Best tip that I ever got was to try to put 12 inches past the hole.
99.9 % of all Putts short don't go in.

That’s a huge issue and most people who try to make the putt die into the hole are setting themselves up for failure. Dave Peltz calls it the lumpy donut which means most golfers are always careful not to step within a few inches of the hole out of respect for the course and this phenomenon causes the area closest to the hole to be a bit higher creating an artificial upslope. This causes many putts without momentum to stop just before the hole. It’s always best to have some momentum on your putt going into the hole.

Recently I got Eric Kaplan's book "Putting, the four secret body locks". Improved my putting stroke alot.

Lag is a terrible Golf term. Lag is telling yourself to miss. Speed putting.

I agree about a lot of good advice in this thread, but feeling the speed of the putt’s path is a helpful initial step, prior to determining the precise line. And, most missed putts are indeed short and break below the path to the hole.

I’m still trying to make the lag putt.
I try to make every putt.
By lag I meant long putts.

Speed putting is a way worse golf term. Sounds like youre just doing what Phil did aat the US open a few years back.

One thing that really helped me was changing putters. I used a scotty mallet I'd gotten from a friend for a long time that would fit someone with a straight back straight through stroke. One day someone told me my stroke had a slight arc and slightly quick tempo and I should be using a blade putter with toe hang. Switching to a putter that fit my stroke helped me more than any putting lesson or advice I've ever gotten

Great advice in this thread guys keep it coming!
I find myself picking a grain of sand or line 3-6” in front of my ball to help with my line. On short straight putts I line up the line of the ball directly to the hole and try and bang it in.
I definitely find myself putting better when I try and putt past the hole, although it’ll get you on long putts when you roll it 3-4 ft past...
