This weekend will be my first time playing in a club championship or a tournament where I’m not on a team. I’ve heard how different it can be pressure wise. Any tips from those who have played in tournaments like this before?

If you’re thinking about it this much all-ready, you’re already screwed.

Tomorrow will be fun since they let you pick your first day foursome. The second day will be less so after it’s flighted and I’m playing with guys I may not really know. I’m honestly looking forward to it, just looking for some advice since it’s my first tournament of this nature

You’re nervous about a tourney that will impact your life in the most minuscule way.

To give you a real answer, just play smart golf. Don't go for the miracle 300 yard carry over water with no drop zone. There is no max score. 1 bad hole/decision can kill you.

Know the rules and abide by them.

It's common to be nervous in your first tournament. Laugh, have fun, and play your game.

Know the rules of the tournament. You should be given a sheet with local rules.

If you think you are OB, hit a provisional.. Will speed up play. Spend time on the putting green hitting 3 foot putts before. You might think those are automatic, but when you have a 3 foot side breaker to save par, the cup shrinks. There are no give me.

Totally different game when they have the “pencil “ on you. It counts

Whatever you do, don’t shank it off the first tee. That’s the one where the most people will be watching.

It's just golf. You're not playing for a living. Enjoy the pressure you feel, because you will, and just play golf. I know it sounds too stripped down but at the end of the day all you want to do is hit it, find it and hit it again.

Oh, and Tito's 2 hours before tee time is where you'll find your level. Play well.

True, playing with 3 baws I’ve never played with in the morning, playing a match against one of them and have no idea how many strokes I’m giving him or he’s giving me and don’t care, just going to shoot the lowest I can and let everything else fall into place.

Plenty of that and a fresh A Fuente Cuban a friend dropped me off yesterday will be burned.

I tend to get a little nervous before any tournament even if it doesn’t really mean anything. It’s natural. Just don’t let it consume you. Your life isn’t gonna change dramatically whether you come in first or last. Play smart golf and have fun, because you are actually paying money to do this. If it isn’t fun, find a new hobby.

If you had PayPal like a normal individual, you’d have it already. I should have been getting strokes anyway.
