Help me hit a draw
Posted by TaderSalad on 11/11/17 at 7:46 am00
A big part of my game is is the random draw that pops up out of no where. Generally, its a 2-5 yard draw, and I can usually hit one with wedges and 9i pretty easily. The longer clubs, not so much. I've tried a few different videos and here's where my confusion is.
A. Do you manipulate the club face by rolling the wrists over at impact?
OR
B. Do you attack the ball from the inside back quadrant and apply side spin (like a soccer ball curved shot)
Or is it a combination. Or is it neither. Please help

One thing I do is actually change my stance to an extremely closed stanch which forces you to attack from inside out and also it helps me following through and turning my wrist. i work on my wrist turning over constantly. Stop my swing way to much.
I believe better players don't have to do this type of thing and just attack inside out and turn over during the swing.

What I have found, right or wrong, with my swing the ball will start where my shoulders are and finish where my heels are pointed.
So when I want to draw I will aim my heels at the target, point my shoulders right of the target where I want to start the ball, and take my normal swing. It works for me probably 80% of the time and some of that 20% is me not point in the right direction or missing my swing.

1) swing on plane (don't come over the top)
2) align your body slightly to the right of your target make sure you clubface is aligned at the target. (Not by manipulating it, but actually adjusting your grip so that it's pointed at the target)

Coach Chappy once told me, "quit being a pussy and hit the fricking draw."
It didn't work. So don't try that
Seriously though, ball a little further back in my stance and standing a little further away from the ball, forcing my club path from in to out usually works for me. But sometimes I block it right

Practice inside out using a 2X4. Close your left foot in slightly.

Appreciate the advice. Will try it all and figure out what is repeatable.

Also check your grip. One of the most important aspects of golf that many people overlook. Whenever i line up to hit a draw switch to a much stronger grip with the club face aiming toward the target and my body and feet aligned to the right of the target and swing away.

If I want to hit a draw, I line up like normal and I drop my back foot a little. The more I drop it back, the more it'll turn over.
Vice versa for the cut.

Just maintain a little tilt behind the ball at impact and maybe increase the grip pressure a smidge in your bottom hand.

Open your back foot and drop it back 3-4 inches - opening your back foot will encourage you to turn more on your backswing and dropping the foot back will make you hit it from the inside plane. Just make sure you release it hard on the follow through.

Remember this, a fade will listen, a draw will not

Swivel your wrists sooner in your swing to get the club head around and through before contacting the call. Also an outside in swing produces a fade. Inside out is a draw. Getting a tad further back in your stance will help as well.

Relax. You tighten up you'll lose it right.

It's pretty much all in my setup. Toes parallel to where I want the ball flight to start, club face square to where I want the ball to finish. Then, normal grip, normal swing, and my only swing thought is "right field"...

first question...Why do you want to hit a draw?
re: Help me hit a drawPosted by TaderSalad on 11/15/17 at 8:42 am to BeaverPRO
Thanks for all the advice folks.
It's my natural "miss" on approaches. Golf is all about repeatability and IF I can figure out how to hit a consistent draw, then I am a step ahead of my miss. Nothing like having an easy hole get ruined because a draw sneaks in and you end up pitching on rather than putting for birdie.

Exactly what I do...right down to the swing thought.

Help me not hit a draw today

Do the opposite of what others have suggested?
