One under the radar course is Windswept Dunes. About 3o minutes away. Usually not a ton of traffic. Can play as long as you want it.

Played there a couple years ago. It was serviceable but kind of a long drive.

Years ago, me and some buddies used to always play Signal Hill. I believe it's right off Thomas Drive. It was never anything special, but it was cheap and a good time

Holiday and the Nicklaus course at baypoint are the two best in the county that are open to the public. Played Holiday a few weekends ago and it was in good shape. Big, true greens.
If you want a cheaper option, Panama Country Club in Lynn Haven is open to the public right now. It's longer than signal hill but the hurricane did a number on it, so it plays like a links course now.
Depending on where you're staying at the beach, Destin isn't a far drive but traffic is a bitch that time of year. Lynn Haven is probably an hour from the west end, but like I said, that's the budget option

It's just a large field of weeds and underbrush now. Damn shame
The sharks tooth course at wild heron is one of the best in the state. The ACC tournament will be played there in 2021, you just gotta know somebody with really deep pockets to get to play it.

Damn Hombre closed?! That course was great, and always in great shape. Can't believe they closed it.
OP-
Bay Point Nicklaus course is my favorite course on the Gulf Coast. Highly recommend it.

The Hombre's now "former" golf G.M. Robbie Willis confirming to me today the club has closed its doors for good, saying it will not reopen.
Robbie telling me the damage done to the Hombre by Hurricane Michael was a fatal blow to the business side of the course, saying there are 275 trees down, damage to the paths, the irrigation system and so on. He estimates it would take up to a million dollars just to make things operational again.

Played the Hombre back in the early 90's was a kick arse course. Finished 18 and the wife wanted to go home but my sister and her boy friend and I wanted to play 18 more. Headed to the parking lot and noticed Hubert Green hitting balls at the range. I tell my sister who he is and I take my wife back to the condo. Come back to the course and we head to number 1 and I ask my sister did you talk to Hubert? She said we pulled up to the range and he turned a kinda gave us a shitty look and she ask if we could watch him hit a few in which he replied, it's a free county. What a dick.

Played in the second stage of PGA Tour Q School at The Hombre twice. I was down there in February and drove by it. Was really sad to see it closed and overgrown.
As I understand it, the hurricane tore it up pretty badly and they just couldn't afford to repair it.
The last time I played Bay Point was in 1991 before Nicklaus redid it. It was a Bruce Devlin design that was just brutally hard and not for weekend players. We sent a team there to regionals for the Oldsmobile Scramble.

that's surprising to me because whenever I played there they seemd to have a healthy membership.
shite they had a couple of senior tour guys that played there.
Allen Doyle was always there playing.

Shark’s Tooth or BP, Camp Creek is being redone at the moment, if you want to take a ride Regatta has new greens and Burnt Pine is always good, going this coming week to the area but I doubt I bring my clubs.

Holiday is good for money.
Also throw out Nature Walk. It’s a short drive in Lynn Haven. Par 60 I believe But wel kept. Shot a 12 over there. Even with 3 double bogeys and a triple. Best round of my life.

eh, it's kept up but I wouldn't say well kept. I'm kind of sad they reopened, this is where I "learned" how to play golf. They maintained the course and put up an honor box, so I played nearly every day.
The greens are really soft and nearly every one has a dead spot or two. They do have a ball machine at the range now, so that's nice.
All that said, the country club is a par 72 course a few miles away that's only slightly more expensive.

I really like Camp Creek! Played there last year and it was fabulous. Check for maintenance on all the courses before you play. Regatta is good too, just a short drive away.
