Driver Tips
Posted by TheGhostOfBigLee on 5/5/20 at 8:09 pm00
Can anyone help me out with my driver? Prior to about last week I was smashing it and now all of my drives are either low and hard on the ground or popped up. I can’t for the life of me figure out what’s wrong with my swing.

You just started back didn’t you? You’re not gonna be Fred Couples in a month.

Hit some balls with your feet almost touching.

Ball position would be the first thing to check.

When this happens to me it's typically due to getting the ball too far out in front. You're hitting it too much on the upswing and it's going straight up or you're barely clipping it with the bottom of the leading edge. Try moving it back in your stance a bit.

You trying to murder the ball? Position on the inside of your lead foot and take a smooth swing through the ball. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Grip it like a stick of butter. Sensation should be like you're barely going to hit it. Once you get it airborne consistently, then you can regain confidence and timing.

Practice hitting driver with a 7 iron. Tee it up like you would with your driver and let it rip. Works for me.

Shorter backswing
Actually opposite has recently worked for me
I was losing ball right way too often, lengthend my back swing to parallel up top and it’s totally changed my driving of the golf ball.
With that said i listened to some nerds on here about shaft length... decided to shave a 1 3/4” off my driver and I’ve lost 10-15 yards.
Not real happy about it currently.

The root cause for what you described is generally that you're hanging back on the back foot at the start of the downswing. It's vital that the weight is shifted to the front foot ( big toe) before the arms and club move downward at the start of the downswing. This causes the club to bottom out opposite your front heel instead of the middle of your feet.
