Kinda hoping it stays that way. Hate to say that because 90% of the non-members that play there are fine but with cheaper rates come more and more non-respecting customers.

Played a couple of weeks ago behind a 3-some of young guys, all wearing jeans (thought that was not allowed, but....). By the 3rd hole, they were all hitting multiple tee shots and then started hitting balls off the edge of the green into the trees. Finally skipped a hole just to get past them. You could tell they were college kids frickin' around.

Pros:
Everything. I love country club life.

Cons:
Price. You have to put a value on the fact you enjoy being a member.

I would never join a club that's for just one course.

Here in NC, we have a group of McConnel courses that are grouped together, like if you join Sedgefield, you get to play all McConnel courses. I believe there are 7 or 8 (NorthState, Raleigh CC, etc.). I've only played a couple through a friend.

But I would only get a membership like that.

Literally every CC you join gets you access to a bunch more. In my experience I can get on virtually any private course in LA by having my club’s pro call for me. He will usually offer for one of their guests to play under my membership if the other club ever has someone who wants to play ours.

Has not one CCL member brought up random assessments? That has to be the worst side of country club golf.

You sit down with the wife after the kids are in bed. You look at the spreadsheet and realize you can afford the monthly fee. You look at the savings account and you aren't loaded, but you can pony up the initiation fee. So you and the Mrs. pull the trigger. 6 months later, the club wants to redo the greens and the clubhouse and everyone has to pony up $10k.

That is part of the reason I haven't joined somewhere. I don't want to be into a club for $30k and then have them demand me pay them another $10k so they can add a clay tennis court.

One day, if money is absolutely no issue, I could afford the initiation fee, and knew I could afford a significant assessment without a major lifestyle change, I'd do it.

I also don't play near enough golf with a little kid to justify doing it. But that's ancillary.

Not a member of CCL. But, I think what they are accomplishing here is great. People in Louisiana are cheap as hell when it comes to golf. After LSU Sports and Hunting / Fishing Golf is way down the budget for most. That place doesn’t look cheap to run.

ETA: If you ok paying CCL monthly dues then $10k should be a drop in the bucket. If $10k is a shock to you then I wouldn’t be spending $700 a month in the first place.

They weren’t random, they were voted on by the members.

Not ALL members voted for the assessment.

About 70% with no guarantee of another assessment coming in the next 5-6 years.

Assessments are what they are. In my opinion you have no business owning a Porsche if you can’t afford the maintenance.

Private courses aren’t immune to shitty and slow golfers.

I agree. It's just a con to joining a private club.

I doubt more than a few, if any, members had issues with coming up with $10k. But it's still $10k.

I belong to a really first class club.

It is a luxury, but I choose to spend the money on this.

We do have some slow play at times, but most of the time it is not crowded.

The practice facility is top shelf. Driving range, putting green, and a chipping green with green side bunker. We even have a fairway bunker. I went the other day and just practiced.

you can always get on
always somebody to play with
fun tourneys

con's
huge tabs b/c everything is charged, its so easy to just grab a club at the clubhouse and when you get the bill it's crazy

My club has 72 holes of golf so that helps with the monotony.

I think its worth it but im paying for convenience, I can go play 18 holes or play 4 and go home, especially useful for the offseason and weekdays.

It's not always about how much golf you play.

That is a big pro. I can go play any amount of holes and prefer that to the range sometimes to work on things.

Made this mistake last year. Got drunk playing in the 4th of July scramble, then proceeded to drink even more at the pool. $400 later, the wife was not happy!
