What are some of the betting games you like to play besides wolf and vegas?

Most games I play are based on performance using net scores (we all know each other). Every birdie pays, greenies, and skins. So everyone puts up $15 and the amount per just depends on how many are in the game that day and the number of birdies.

Wolf with a free agent is interesting and adds a little strategy. And you can add in trash: ducky, greeny, sandy, offy...

Skins, but you have to make par or better on the next hole to qualify for that skin.

Stroke play. Nothing aggravates me more than guys trying to figure out games, rules, and scores on a golf course every damn hole.

re: betting games
531 for a threesome

Each hole has 9 points up for grabs.

First gets 5; second 3, third 1 based on each hole.

If two tie with pars and third guy bogeys it’s split 441
If all tie it’s 333
If two tie for second it’s 522

You can add one for sandies, greenies and birdies if you like.

Third place after pays first place. The battle for second is fun.

Hammer.

Can go 1v1 or 2v2.

Each hole is worth X to begin. Everyone puts up that amount. One person is designated with the hammer.

The person with hammer can double the bet, during any shot of the hole. Person who receives the hammer can accept or decline doubling the bet, but will always receive the hammer.

No limits on how many hammers/hole. Carry over of holes that are halved.

I watched a very wealthy individual's group get to 64k on one hole. I was very giddy.

re: betting games
We play wolf with the caveat that you have to pick every player in the group 1 time, and go alone 1 time. This is assuming a foursome. Prevents the best player in the group from getting picked all day which frequently happens otherwise and takes some of the friendliness out of the game. We also incorporate the hammer - but we play that the hammer is always open off the tee but once it is thrown then the other team holds the hammer. A team cannot throw twice in a row, so we would never end up with more than 3 hammers on a hole. Exception being that any player going alone holds the hammer off the tee.

Also fun to play a robin (3 6 hole matches and you pair with each member of the foursome for one match)

Can also set teams in match play by fairway vs rough, short vs long, or left vs right off the tee.

Anyway, all of these formats mix up the teams which usually prevents anyone from losing too badly. Even on a bad day your get teamed up with the hot hand for at least a few holes.

re: betting games
Pass the buck is a fun side bet.

Each guy puts up x dollars and you establish a hitting order. First guy up holds the buck. As long as he hits into a “through the green” area, he holds on to it. If he hits into a bunker, hazard, OB, or “native area” or three putts, he loses it to the next guy, so on and so forth. A birdie also steals the Buck. At the end of the last hole, whoever has the buck keeps it

re: betting games
If you have a 3 some, the game of 9’s is a good one:

Points totalling 9 are assigned to each player based on their score on the hole:

So if player A makes a 4 and players B and C makes 5’s, Player A gets 5 points and B&C get 2 points each

If A&B make 4’s and c makes a 6, then A and B get 4 points each and player C gets 1

Assign a money value/point and tally them up at the end.

So honest question, how many of y’all still know what the score is or have all bets figured out by the time you get to 18? Just play the game.

Why would you not want to know where you stood late in the round?

It depends on the type of bet. If there's strategy involved that would cause me to play the hole a certain way (push for instance) or pick a certain partner, then yeah I want to know where I stand. But sometimes I'm in a team game with multiple groups involved and it's all about playing as well as you can so I don't really care or even know exactly how much I'll win or lose until all groups are in.

re: betting games
We play $2 skins and trash(birdie, sandy, greeny and reversey) with carry overs and validation.

If you win a skin, you have to tie the next hole. If you dont then the skins are back up for grabs. trash is yours to keep.

reversey is when you have the greeney, but three putt..then you owe everyone $2.

My buddy plays in a lot of big (as in number of players) money games at his club with tons of junk and side bets. He told me about the Golfskins payout calculator app.

All you have to do is list the number of players, how much each dot is worth (holes won, birdies, greenies, sandies, etc) and put the number of “dots” a player earns

And it will tell you who pays who...

Player A won $30
Player B won $13
Player C lost $15
Player D lost $28

Player D pays player A $28
Player C pays Player A $2
Player C pays Player B $13
