I have to make the drive up to Birmingham next week and wanted to play somewhere along the way that was worthwhile. Can anyone recommend a place? We're taking the Hattiesburg-Meridian-Tuscaloosa route so any place in one of these places or somewhere along the path anyone can recommend? TIA

North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa is a really nice track.

go stay at the Beau Rivage the night before you were scheduled to leave, then play Fallen Oak the morning before you leave.

It'll be the best track. Obviously the most expensive too with the cost of a hotel room.

Yep, not sure if you had a CC pro that could call, if not and Fallen Oak is an option it’s a top 3 in MS..Old Waverley in West Point, MS is great if not too far out of the way.

Mossy Oak or Old Waverly or hit one of the RTJ places... might have to go a little out of your way, but not too far.

Hotel room won’t cost as much as the round, $200, and it’s way out of the way.

I’d play Canebrake or Hattiesburg Country Club. Both are good tracks, on the way and approximately 1/2 between BR and Birmingham. Just call ahead. They are private, but you can get on pretty easily.

Comsider Ross Bridge (RTJ) in Hoover-Bham. But beware: it’s loonngg.

Dancing Rabbit is not far from the route you're taking. 2 really nice courses.

Unfortunately both Dancing Rabbit and Old Waverly both add another 1.5 hours to the trip. Can any of you Mississippi and Alabama baws tell me best public course in Hattiesburg area and also best one in Tuscaloosa area.

We're already playing Ross Bridge later that week.

Tuscaloosa's only decent course is Ol Colony. A Jerry Pate (of Dancing Rabbit architecture) design. It's a muni, but it's a nice gem. I think it runs around $40-50 to play.
It has a good variety of holes (short par 4's, long par 3's, etc.), a little bit of elevation change, though most holes are fairly flat. Some water comes into play on about 6-8 of the holes. It can be a challenge to score well, but it's not an extremely tight course, very fair. Nice practice facilities, too. (The University of Alabama has a building there for the golf team).

Dancing Rabbit is not far off your path to Birmingham, just 30 minutes north of Meridian, 2 1/2 hours to Birmingham. The courses are soft right now from the rains but in great shape. The Bet and Play golf promo is still good thru March - bet $50 in the sports book and get a $30 green fee coupon! Great spot to play some golf and take in March Madness. Call 601-663-0011 for tee times.
